    Audi Connect with FreedomPop

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys:

So I have the FreedomPop card and tried to setup a "my audi connect" account and after filling out the VIN the site is asking me for the SIM number. About halfway through it identifies my card as an ATT card, which it obviously not. IS there any way around this? I am trying to set this u so I send Google maps to the car.

    Thanks

    Ray

What are the 5th, 6th, and 7th digits on the SIM card? Freedom Pop is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that piggybacks on one of the larger carrier networks; e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon. At one point or another I think they've used most of them.

    Here is the whole thing:
    89011704278120865060

So the 5-7 digits are 170

When I try making my a account at my Audi it identifies the card as ATT but it doesn't do anything. I only want to use it to send maps to the nav. I get 2G grayed out but that is it.

....actually just found out that my car only works with T-Mobile or so the girl at Audi tells me, so I would need a sim that works with T-mobile. Their SIMS are 200 bucks a year, which I don't want to pay.

You just need to find an MVNO that uses T-Mobile. When I had the S4 I looked into it, I can't remember which ones I looked at but cost was the reason I didn't. Even with a cheap data plan it still costs more than I could justify.

Well I got it working with FreedomPop. Google stuff is active but I can not figure out how to activate the Audi Connect thing so I can send maps to the car. Any suggestions? What is a MVNO? When I put in the SIM info in Audi Connect, it identifies the SIM as an ATT sim but it tells me it is not activated, so is there a work around? Obviously the car works with FreedomPop and I think people have/are sending maps to car using that sim. IS there another way of sending maps to the car?

If you have a working 3G data connection (confirm with MMI Telephone > Data connection > Online status overview screen), you have the 1st half of this puzzle solved.

Do you know if the VIN has an Audi Connect PIN associated to it already ?
Check this at the myAudi site (www.audiusa.com/myaudi): assuming your VIN is linked to your myAudi account, on the overview page (https://www.audiusa.com/myaudi/overview), pick the "Audi connect services" icon. On the new myAudi page, select the page menu (upper left), then My Vehicles. On the My vehicles page, select the vehicle with MMI 3G+ to view the Vehicle profile page. The myAudi Vehicle Profile page should show the current PIN associated with the VIN/vehicle.

We've been discussing some of this over here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...i-Connect-Yes-!

Hi all. Reviving an old thread. I can't get my freedompop sim to work in my 2013 s6. Is this because of the change to the T-Mobile towers? That doesn't make sense to me, but I can't figure out other reasons why. Had a 2014 S4 and an ATT SIM worked in lieu of the T-Mobile Audi connect so in theory shouldn't this work? Just looking for a way to get 3g as opposed to the 2g T-Mobile. Confirming SIM from Freedompop has been activated... any ideas?

I tagging in onto this thread. I have ATT without a SIM card on my 18 Q7 but the data usage is limited to 6G. I will run out of data on the plan within 10 months of a three year plan. Data max means I have to renew every 10 months. Looking for other options than ATT.

I don't know about your MY2013 S6, but B8.5 A4s got an upgraded data modem for use with AT&T in MY2014.

What settings do you have put in your MMI? Did you also have to do any online activation?

@weagle1856: My experience when I got my LTE data SIM way-back-when was that it came from FP already activated. I described my experience in more detail here: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...i-Connect-Yes-!

    Hope that helps.

I got this done by following above link posted by DrGer :
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...i-Connect-Yes-

It was painless.. Now I might sign up for US Mobile instead after Freedompop.

But read the link above.. all others I followed was confusing.

    I have a 2015 A4 Allroad, Premium Plus with high-end MMI/3G+ (if that's the correct description).

Thanks. I followed those directions and did not connect. I have a 3G modem. I know this because 3G came on my US Mobile Sim when I went to Boston. I live in Maine. Hope to have time to play with it this weekend. Until then, any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just to share, my 3g data shows it wont connect last night, when I check data connection setting the APN has reverted back to Audi. So changed it back to Fp.com.attz and connected in a minute. Just make sure all your settings are sticking.
Also I read somewhere US Mobile pay as you go works too.

@pstonge: Did I see somewhere that your car is MY2013 ? If that's the case, the data modem in your MMI only supports T-Mobile 3G (where available). When I was researching this in the summer of 2017, I found that T-Mobile changed much of their data infrastructure 2015/16 (?) timeframe, which is why Audi was offering MMI modem updates to MY2013 owners with current Audi connect subscriptions at the time. My (educated) guess is that if want 3G connectivity, you stuck with T-Mobile unless you update your MMI head unit.
Take a look here for some more history: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...3g-2g-2903351/

@tiptronic: I know that certain MMI settings are linked logically to the BT phone connected when the settings are made (e.g., Audi Connect PIN). Maybe the 3G data/APN settings, too ? I haven't seen that happen in our car since we starting using 3G 18 months ago...

Oh thanks. Just saw this. FYI, replying to the person gives them a notification. Not sure if the @ is supported by Tapatalk or not so I could be misreading it

Also, read your other thread. Correct me if I'm wrong but did FreedomPop migrate their services to using only ATT towers?? I think that may be my actual problem and they were using TMobile before.. If so, that's annoying af

I don't now the complete history of FreedomPop, but my understanding is that they've always used the AT&T network. The problem with older 3G+ hardware is that they relied on T-Mobile data bands. T-Mobile still has working 2G, so older systems with T-Mobile service will still get that, and if you're in an area where the old 3G band wasn't converted to LTE, you'll get 3G (but not the newer 4G connection). And all of us with later 3G+ systems will by SOL when AT&T ends their 3G service (possibly in 2022?).

Oh. Well now I'm confused. I have a 2013 that used to work flawlessly with Freedom Pop too they removedv support for their global sims. Now that I have a new card, nothing works for me with the new or old APN settings...

I live in Atlanta so getting 3g shouldn't be an issue, but I'm not even at that stage yet. Hell 2g would even be nice right now lol.

I also found my Audi connect pin but don't see anywhere it allows me to enter it in to my MMI.

The Wikipedia entry for FreedomPop offers a hint here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreedomPop

The old Global SIM used both AT&T and T-Mobile networks, hence your access to 3G with a FP Global SIM (when they were active).
The LTE SIM uses only AT&T in the US market.
Thus is one of the problems with being first-to-market with certain technologies like mobile data -- your product is likely to out-live the service it was designed & built to use...
