    LED headlights...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anybody recommend replacement LED bulbs for the both high and low beam on a 2008 B7? What about a yellow bulb for the fog lights? I'm new to the forum so sorry if these questions have been asked a million times.

Led bulbs are not designed for halogen housings. You'll blind oncoming drivers.

Nope LED are junk in most housings/ projectors. I have retrofitted my lights with better projectors and lens.

Don't do it for low beams if you have projector lenses, the reflectors just don't shine the light properly and it is sooooo bad, I did it and it is just terrible. High beams however are the shiz! They are bright as hell and you won't blind anyone because highs are for when there is no oncoming traffic. All that said I have LED's in my low/high/fogs in my GMC Canyon because I don't care, trucks always blind people anyway so I may as well do it in style LOL

    LED headlights...

I bought used OEM bi-xenons and its probably my favorite cosmetic "mod," save for maybe coilovers. Really brings the front end into this decade and worth every penny.

Edit: I did, however, swap out the DRLs and City lights with LEDs

LEDs are made for halogen light. As they work well with the reflector.

Nothing beats the oem bixenons though.

They really aren't i just feel the luminosity is a higher rating than a standard halogen bulb but when people see "blue" light they just assume it is so much brighter and flash you regardless of xenon or LED.

Doubt it considering I only really drive my truck in the winter and during the day LOL My B6 needs inspected so I have been in my truck lately but save for the occasionial late night run to Lowes to pick up lumber or whatever, I dont even run that thing with lights on. Plus I live in a very rural farm area with minimal opposing traffic at night.

    !
That is how I feel with my truck. It really is the most amazing thing, dare I say "night and day" difference LOL! But for real, it is absolutely incredible how much light you get from them in a standard reflector headlight. I can see dear crossing the road 10 miles out

They are not actually. A halogen bulb is omnidirectional where LED aftermarket are not. Typically a plug and play LED kit does not have the range of a halogen bulb in a reflector housing. You normally only get a brighter close range light. If you want a bright light with the proper output either go with OEM HID housings or do a HID projector retrofit or LED projector retrofit.

Its hard to get good range out of an LED bulb.

I wouldve just gone with OEM bixenons or ecodes or something. By the time youd done a retrofit you couldve just bought a used set of bixenons.

This is not actually true anymore. I would agree to this with the 1st generation led's. But we are currently is the 3rd generation led's. These have the range and longevity. Even car manufacturers have leds in non projector housings now. The newest technology out is laser emitting headlites now.

I disagree but only if you don't get a quality set of bulbs. I swear by these bulbs by Nighteye they are so much better than my stock halogens in my truck and insane as my high beams on my B6. The crazy thing is they aren't even 360 degrees of light, just two sides and it is incredible! Definitely projects far, focused, and bright!

So the latest led can project and shine far enough? I want it bright but also shine far enough.

    Or hid still shines farther?

Will these fit the stock halogen headlight assemblies? Do I have to change wiring, or can I use the existing connectors?

Fits like glade..... "plug it in, plug it in" LOL did I just date myself with that old jingle? Answer yes I did. But for real, they plug right in no ballast nothing just make sure you get ones with the heat dissipating fans, they make ones that look like standard halogen bulbs that have no fan and also have like 0 light output. Pretty much only useful as a DRL. You def want something rated 3000 lumens or higher regardless of how truly accurate these readings are. I have tested so many different bulbs and found the brand I referenced to be the best for color, brightness, projection, and fit. You will find with these fans built in to the bulbs they can be a process to get inserted into your housings but they will fit.

You have H7 bulbs for highs and lows I take it so buy these bulbs and try them in your low beam, see how terrible it is in a projector housing, then either upgrade to OEM xenon's with ballasts or an aftermarket kit and be pleased with it, oh and last step, move the bulbs to the high beam where they will be the most amazing thing you have ever seen LOL but honestly grab these bulbs for your high beams and you will not be disappointed. It is so so so so much brighter than xenon or especially halogens. You can see EVERYTHING at night. For lows, I would just grab a set of Xentec HID kits. I have had those in several cars and they seemed to be pretty bullet proof for me. Oh you could also get those LED bulbs for your fog lights which will even make halogen low beams look like 4500K-6000K when the 2 bulbs blend together. Definitely keep us all posted what you do and document with pictures. Good luck my friend with whatever you decide to run

If I think of it or have time tomorrow night I can try to snap some pictures of my B6 with my LED fogs and highs as well as my OEM xenon lows.

I wouldnt be able to answer that for you. I have factory Bi-Xenons on the A4. But I do have them in the fog lites. I used the same manufacturer for both my Ford Transit Connect and Mk1 Rabbit GTI and it was straight plug and play.

Thanks for the info. I'd have to get projector housings. But I like your idea of the HID kit too. I'll be sure to check it out.

it's all about lens and light diffusion physics. There is nothing to do with light type. It is really possible to design LED that will fit in our cars and respect the OEM light emission pattern. Is there already a kit out for B7s? I don't know.

But it's not impossible to find kits for mk5, mk6, nissans, toyota, etc.

many early 2000 cars, had hid with standard reflectors.

This as been said, if the light is not tested or designed to repect the original light pattern, I won't use it, I might cause issues with visibility for the driver or others.

Oh I thought you said you had projectors, you are better off using these LED's as your low then if it is a standard reflector, especially since they are a euro spec cutoff and should still have a similar line to a projector lens. Just do not use LED's in projectors, there are no bulbs that are out there yet that will get the light to project properly in that setup!

OEM is going to provide the best source of light as far as reflectors go. I have never had any luck with aftermarket projectors. I am telling you, try the $30 on LED low beams and see if you want to just upgrade your bulbs. Simple upgrade and install, incredible light output for your lights (halogen reflectors only) and they are just cool since they are instant on. Sure the aesthetics are there with some aftermarket lights but you will get irritated with them due to low light output from the projector lenses or get moisture in the light at some point and then you can thank me for steering you on the right path LOL. But for real, both aftermarket lights "LOOK" pretty nice. I just know in my many headlight swaps, aftermarkets suck for some reason, and you will find out the reason eventually. OEM headlight units are top notch quality. I am about to start a GoFundMe to raise money for these $30 bulbs so you can see how amazing they are LOL
