Vibration Above 40mph Stops When Braking or Accelerating

My 2001 Audi A4 1.8t drives great but at above 40mph, the car is constantly vibrating and the steering wheel shakes. The vibrations stop when braking or accelerating. Does anyone have an idea of what this may be? It feels like it comes from the front right tire. I lifted that side up and tried shaking the wheel but it does not shake.

Wheel out of balance. Does the car pull to one side at all?

Check both sides. Could be out of balance wheels, inner and/or outter tie rod ends..

I haven't had a chance to lift the other wheel and try shaking it as it was getting late, but I did notice that the shaking only happens between 40-60 mph and goes away if I go slower than 40 mph, faster than 60 mph, am braking, accelerating, or have my foot on the gas. It is the worst between 40-50 mph. The car does not pull to one side at all. The previous owner had a mechanic look at it when the car was misfiring, and the mechanic said that the car needs a new engine mount. Could that cause this issue? I think a bad engine mount would only cause clunking when going over bumps or hitting the gas and letting it go. The car does not clunk when hitting the gas or going over bumps. It does make a rattling noise from the camshaft chain tensioner though.

It's a possibility. It could be that the engine rpm is just so that the frequency of it is causing the engine mount enough stress that it's not working properly. Look up bedrooms of cars with bad engine mounts. Most you see are sever causes but you'll get the gist

Do the motor mount anyway if its bad, even if its not the issue its a good place to start your troubleshooting. Also super easy on the 1.8t's, well mine was on my quattro, but only about an hour.

Unfortunetly those are pretty generic symptoms that doesn't rule out either of the possible issues.. Tie rod ends and out of balance wheels.

I just changed out my tie rod ends (Inner and outer) since the driver side was really bad. Drove fine until I hit about 40 where I would get some nasty shakes, and then they would slowly go away once I hit 55 or so.
