    Q5 TDI Oil Change Interval

What type of interval schedule are my fellow TDI owners following with respect to oil changes? I bought this vehicle with approximately 29k on the odometer. I immediately took it from the used car lot to a local Audi mechanic for an oil change just for some peace of mind even though the dealer kept assuring me they change the oil upon each vehicle that comes in their lot. I then had the oil changed again at the dealer for my 35k service. I have only driven about 7k miles since my last oil change at the dealer and when I had it changed this morning my local mechanic told me the oil was "really black and dirty" and I should strongly consider changing it out earlier. Has anyone else had this experience? Why does my owner manual recommend changing at 10K when it appears even 7k was too long? The one caveat is it took me about a year to drive those 7k miles, that's why I changed the oil now instead of later.

In the olden days i changed my oil every 2k miles

The 10k oil change is what you can get with a well maintained engine using the proper quality oil and filter. Driving conditions also play a part. I went 130k on my 2.0tdi with no issues at 10k each change (i did myself) Diesel engine oil turns black pretty quick and is not an indication of when its time to change. If your budget permits change it as often as you like. If your planning on being a lifer go every 7.5k or 5k depending on the driving conditions. Make sure you and/or mechanic use the proper 507.00 (or whatever it calls for) oil and not just any synthetic.

    Thanks, that was helpful advice.
