2016 MMI add CarPlay & Android Auto

I agree... Come on AoA ... my mom has a Hyundai Sonata and they issued an update for CarPlay on the car, free of charge that I was able to do for her at home.

I understand that everyone is different, but this shouldn't be an issue when so many of the Audis with MMI already have CarPlay.

Update would be great! Would it help if we all start barraging Audi Customer Service with calls? I am sure a lot of people would call! haha.

It's rarely simple but if there's a guy who can do it gray market then I'm sure Audi engineers can...

Tired to wait for it from Audi so I've recently purchased smart interface box with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Mirrorlink all in one for my A8 D4 with MMI, purchased it online from company called Carsgadget.com . I already used their back up camera for my 2015 Audi A4 before, which worked perfect for me. But now seems they have upgraded version with bunch of extras for all Audi models. I use it with iPhone X and can tell wireless CarPlay works great, fully OEM integration, everything controlled via OEM MMI buttons, plus have options to hook up front and rear camera if your car doesn't have it. Well worth spent $500. Recommend, link to their web https://www.carsgadget.com/

I just contacted them with the question if they have Apple CarPlay for my car with MMI and they offered to me exactly what i was looking for. They didn't have it on their web at the moment either, it was like in beta trail or something, but it works, no complains. So just go ahead send a message if you don't see it. Good luck!

Can you talk about your experience installing their unit? I asked for a copy of their install instructions and they told me they couldn't share it because of copyright issues! They insist it's "plug and play" but that doesn't make me feel confident that I could install it myself.

Yes, in their manual it's clearly noted, "do not share the manual" as it's their copyrighted property. The installation process is pretty straightforward, as long as you have an idea how to work on cars around the trim and stuff like that. The cable connection was pretty easy part, as you simply need to reconnect OEM wires with provided harness behind OEM head unit and climate control panel, diagram is also provided. Provided cables fits OEM connector, that was easy part. The hardest part was to lineup all wires behind the head unit so it could be installed back in place, at least in A8, i didn't have this issue when was installing their other unit in my B8.5 A4 few years ago. Here, in A8, due to the limited space behind the head unit i spent like an hour or so lining up and putting all wires in different direction until i finally got it. Rather than that i don't see an difficulties in the installation. It's totally worth the time spent. I think anyone can do it. Just take your time and if you'll have any questions you can email them, they are very responsive. Good luck.

My wrenching skills have deteriorated with age. But it looks like a good piece of kit so I’ll try and find someone to do it for me. How long did the installation take?

I have a 2016 Audi S7. Just bought my wife a 2018 Mercedes w/ Apple CarPlay. I have a samsung galaxy and it works perfectly with the MB media. Jealous that I can't get it on my car. When Audi??? WHEN?

You can... Search the C7 board for Apple CarPlay Activated.

A Nice guy will send you the files and arrange a time and he can remotely do it with a windows computer
