Gas smell at front of car and when using defrost.

Not a super strong smell, but enough to be noticeable because it just started a few days ago. I don't see any signs of drips or leaks anywhere. I've read some posts that suggested an o-ring replacement for the fuel injectors so I will give that a shot. Anything else worth looking into?

check around your HPFP. Especially if you have been inspecting your cam follower recently.

Took a good look and found a gas drip under the #4 fuel injector. Guessing they need to be re-sealed. So the car will sit for a few days until I can flatbed it to the independent Audi shop in KC. I'd do it myself if I had the right tools handy. I won't be driving it with an active fuel leak, that's for sure.

yeah car-b-Qs aren't the way to go . I think you have to pull the intake to get to the injector anyway so if you are not up to the task fair enough , I would consider a carbon cleaning though if the intake has to come off. can someone confirm this is the case ?

I've decided to do this job myself and do a carbon clean while I'm in there. I figured by the time I bought the necessary tools and equipment to do the job, it would still cost a lot less than taking to a shop. Plus, there are detailed DIYs out there for guidance. I'm looking forward to getting it done!

JHM has a good DIY on the carbon cleaning. I recommend getting an injector seal kit. I just bought one the other day off of Amazon. This is the kit I bought.

The seals are pretty fragile when you pull the injectors out. And yes they can be pulled out by hand despite what some of the tutorials say.

The job is not that bad, just time consuming. Make sure you have a good set of Torx bits since you'll need various sizes.

taking off the intake is cake dude. I did it without any knowledge buy a set of triple squares and torx and extensions and you are golden.

Got this done over the weekend and the car is running great. Resealed the fuel injectors and did a carbon cleaning while I was in there. The VW/Audi fuel injector tool kit was a huge help. Glad I shelled out $80 for it because it was totally worth it. Made pulling, resealing and replacing the injectors a breeze.

I used BG ISC (see link below) and wire brushes. Before soaking in ISC, I scraped off as much junk as possible with a small screwdriver and a soldering pick, then vacuumed the carbon chunks. The ISC is seriously powerful. All sorts of stuff on the warning label including the words "Suspected of causing cancer." I was decked out like Walter White with elbow length rubber gloves and eye protection and fans blowing fresh air into the garage.
