Took a short video, keep in mind I have decent tread on oem conti summer tires, what do you guys think, seems the Haldex is not working on my S3?!
A video without slow motion would help.

This is what mine was like with a failed Haldex.

Just an update, dropped the car off today and they confirmed Haldex issue. I will update once I have parts list but they mentioned fluid change, pump replacement and ordered a differential "motor" also performing rear suspension TSB for clunking and low coolant bs with air bubble. So I have all the typical issues on the 8v s3 haha

Is your ECU or TCU tuned? Also, as I am relatively new here, what is the rear suspension TSB exactly? I want to stay ahead of these issues or at least keep an eye out on them.

I am actually not tuned at all, the rear suspension TSB is mag ride only and is a sort of clunking sound you get on medium to large road imperfections. I believe it involves replacing the rear strut mounts.

Interesting. I also have the mag ride and will need to keep an eye out. Thanks for the clarification

I assume the differential housing is in the center of the rear axle. Yes?
Just crawl under the car from the rear look at the rear diff, you can't miss it, snap a pic of all the numbers and bam. You'll know.
    See the "K"?
And for the record, maybe I'm just thinking too much after reading this, but I noticed some wheel spin up front on my 1st launch on a 2017 S

My car has 1700 miles on it. And no codes, but it surely spun the shit out of the fronts on a couple of occasions. With the K. So I'll chalk this up as haldex is either a lethargic AWD system or it's broke.

oh that sucks!! So far, the car did not spin at all when I launched it in stock form. I dragged it once and got 4 passes. So, far I only used LC around 6 times or so. However, I just got the Unitronics Stage 1+ and TCU tune yesterday. Not sure how LC will be effected. But, to your point, now I want to see what diff I have. Someone said the "M" is out but could not really get proof. I am just gonna take a pic underneath my car and see what I have.

    Thanks for your update.

    Cool

    Hey guys,

Just a quick update, car is fixed, tech instantly knew the issue when I showed him the first video. Here is a launch after the fix. On another note the rear suspension clunk is gone with TSB and no more low coolant problems after the coolant was changed and burbed

They replaced the pump, changed the fluid, drain plug and had a "replacement kit" which they said was to for the pump and motor replacement. I will try to get the invoice and part numbers when I get a chance

I just took a video of the unit and there is no letter engraved into it after the part or unit number. I'll try to get a still photo taken but what does this mean if there is no letter? I have a 2015 model manufactured in April based on the VIN translation and took delivery of it in July.

Unfortunately I think I'm gonna have to add my 2015 S3 to the list Looks like the rear wheels aren't engaging.

Sure looks like it, sorry to see that. My replacement was pretty quick and painless so I hope you have a similar experience. They found a mechanical fault on mine when scanned. Bring the video with you and if you have a chance to push the car around some sweeping corners do so with ESP off and see if the front end slides out, mine did before the fix. Best of luck!

I checked my diff, and the letter that is stamped is "S", and it's stamped a little higher and further from the raised numbers (I.e. Towards the edge of the differential).

Dealer service department is telling me some degradation in Haldex performance over time is normal and this is not something they'd address through warranty. Might be time to move on to a torsen based Audi..

Hold on, so they're saying that your AWD car won't perform as advertised and this is normal? You bought an AWD car so it should work ALL the time when the conditions are right for it to activate. That's complete BS if you ask me.

and BTW 8VS3, it looks like the rear isn't engaging at all lol that's not performance degradation, that's a failure of the system completely.

I'll definitely be contacting Audi Canada about it. In the meantime the dealer is now offering to get me into an S5 Sportback for less than what I'm paying for my S3 so that might be hard to turn down.

They should fix your car under warranty just like what Audi is doing worldwide for any A3/S3/Golf R, etc that is having this issue, then get you into a S5 Sportback and give you better value on the S3 you trade in.

Update - heard from the dealer this afternoon after speaking with Audi Canada and the service and sales manager of the dealership. They'll be fixing the Haldex. Parts are gonna take a week or so so I'll report back soon once it's been serviced!

When I took mine in, the tech who rode in my car after I demonstrated the symptoms said "I'm not really an expert on these AWD systems I need to go ask somebody else." I had to restrain myself from telling him that perhaps he should've stayed at UTI or worked at a Honda dealer.

I can imagine and feel the frustration, as you grip the steering wheel tighter! Why are you even in the car, they would be better off sending the receptionist.

    Haldex failure thread

So they've now replaced everything and the Haldex is working again. While we were in and out of the dealership they made a really attractive trade in offer and, as wife wanted a larger car, we're getting into a Technik B9 S4 for roughly the same monthly as the S3.

I'll definitely miss the pocket rocket.. been a great car.

Congrats on the new purchase. What parts exactly did they replace when you say "everything"?

A poster on the FB page just yesterday shared a troubling letter referring to his 2017 model. I can't remember if it was a recall notice lol. Maybe the new clutch isn't so "fixed". My brother's '16 was replaced at ~13k. I'm just waiting for mine to go ;)

Weren't those posts in reference to the DSG? That is quite a ways upstream of the Haldex unit, transmission versus rear end.

I did check today and I do have the "K" unit which most have no issues with except one person earlier in the post. In any case, i will be dragging the car this week and seeing what the LC does with the stage 1+ Unitronics tune. Hopefully, everything functions the way it is supposed to.

Apologies for the slight thread jack, getting near the end of my tether with my short ownership of an unmodified 8P RS3 (I know this is the 8v section, apologies, the 8P section is... "quiet" to say the least).

$64,000 question: Do I have unreasonable expectations of traction?

Regular (what feels like front) wheel spin / traction control flashing in 3rd in the wet, occasionally even in the dry. Usually accompanied by steering wheel squirm. At other times it'll take full throttle in 2nd in the wet.

No codes from the Haldex (I guess I have an older version compared to the 8V's) and the car is currently at the local Audi garage who say "no fault found"; but really? Traction issues in 3rd? I'd better be holding on when I boot it, because that wheel gives a fair ole tug on occasions.

Pics to make up for the OT question: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...1#post12454075

The car won’t throw a CEL but you might get traction control going off during hard pulls. Are your front wheels spinning excessively if you launch the car?

My 2016 S3 has been off the road since early spring. It's parked while I drive my Porsche during the warmer months. My problem occurred during a very light snow fall. As I was entering the highway I got stuck in a few inches of snow. My front wheels were spinning with no reaction from the rears. I eventually took the car into my dealer. When I did there was no snow on the ground. They were unable to reenact what I had reported and therefore could not find a problem. I was told to return when there was snow on the ground for a further review. The season ended with no further snow. Therefore I am going into this winter season with a faulty car. Can they check this Haldex without slippery conditions? Send me a private message if you can assist me. Thanks.
