Congratulations on bringing her back home and on an awesome car. I feel like Audizine’s C5 section is alive and well these days, but it sounds like you/Dad probably know a good amount.
Tell us a little about what’s been done to it. Do you have any future plans for it?

Thanks. Weird buying the car I used to sit in as a kid. It is a 2002 Allroad 2.7t originally with the Tiptronic. My dad had a couple of b5s before so he knew his ways and after he tuned it or put the turbos, I would have to ask, he wanted to try to keep it auto so he left the trans in it. My dad, sister and I were on the way home when the trans blew up typical tiptronic, so we had to reverse all the way home. After that he swapped a 6 speed into the car. As far as whats done to it

    Frankenturbo f21
    jfonz tune 93 & e85
    devilsown meth injection
    custom side mount intercoolers
    bi pipes
downpipes (have to get brands of many things so long ago my dad doesn't remember)
    xs power exhaust
    bailey motorsports diverter valves
    upgraded injectors for e
    upgraded fuel pump for e
    car is 402d
    I'm forgetting a lot but that's majors

When I got the car I did some small personal touches such as

Previous owner put in touchscreen sony carplay radio
    I wired subs
    TInted tails
    carbon style fin antenna
    034 TBB
    front/rear dashcam
I don't plan on doing anything crazy with the car as it is my daily. It has a tune for e85 but hasn't been run yet, I want to change the plugs and coils and try that out. Fender flares are the worst part, they are starting to fade, I don't know if I should just repaint or color match to the body... I have nicer wheels that came with it that need to be straightened and welded as well as tires. Definitely going to be doing a ton of odds and ends such as lug studs, maybe some rs4 parts even though they are $$$, 2.0T coils, DTS, have to check what my dad did as far as diff, trans, engine mount. I want the carbon rs4 engine covers or just carbon ones, maybe ill try to make them. Headliner is saggin in the back

I haven’t. What I understand is that the grease mostly solidifies in these C5’s over the years and bouncing off the striker is the main symptom. Some have pulled a door lock mechanism apart, cleaned them out, and replaced the grease, but I think I’ll eventually swap it out with a URO brand one and call it a day.

They are rode to shit, my dad got them for the car when he had it a while ago and they were on it with the previous owner and he must have hit a massive pothole. Just had it straightened and welded, and restored mostly 1/4 rims. Not bad since i got them for free. They look nice imo

hey little update did some minor things, i have 3 of the wheels finished and boy are they a bitch to sand. I just installed new headlight switch cover and knob. really thought this was going to be a quick install but i guess i should have researched it before i bought. cover comes off easy enough but the knob has clips on the inside holding it on which i didn’t know until i looked it up. i ended up dremeling around the old knob to access the clips but they still would unhook. saw another video where a guy just used pliers and pulled the knob right out. should have just done it in the first place as the knob popped right out. hope this helps someone trying to do it as it may seem harder than it looks in the videos.

someone near me is selling some allroad parts. the one that caught my eye is the hotchkins sway bars. i’ve been looking for a used pair and he is close to me, one needs rebuilt and painted. He’s asking $300 for both and won’t only sell rear. I’ve heard just putting rear only is best. Let me know what you guys think they are worth.

FINALLY got the new shoes on. They look great and 245s ride way better so far than the 225s that were on it. When it’s aired out it’s pretty much tucking up front.

got around to doing the plugs today, wasn’t too bad besides the coil boots getting stuck in two of the cylinders and the obvious maneuvering of the front coil packs to somehow bend them out. but got it done with and car seems to rev up quicker and overall sounds healthier. these plugs were gummed up for sure who knows how long they have been in since previous owner never installed plugs.

    Thanks!

I used duplicolor gloss clear coat, I found that the headlights didn’t look right unless you apply the clear coat pretty close but you have to be careful not to make runs. Turned out awesome.

battery almost took a shit on me today, didn’t realize it was a ticking time bomb. i think i got the final juice out of it when i went to get the new battery. it ended up being from 2017. anyone have holdowns or does the battery just sit in there like mine?

Should be a small hold down bracket that bolts in from the passenger side of the battery.

That said, I completely understand that feeling. Back in 2019 or 2020, I had to get a new battery for my Allroad, and literally as I was driving back from the dealer (good parts deal on the battery), the car was randomly shutting off and turning itself back on. Nerve-racking but made it back and didn't do it again after the battery swapped.

okay thanks, mine doesn’t have that but it doesn’t look like there is any room for it to really slide around i guess i’ll see. it was fine yesterday but slow crank this morning then barely started before work. at least its manual bc bumping is always useful in emergency.

I’m interested in upgrading my sway bars. I’ve heard great things about the hotchkis sway bars and some people also say just the rear bar is the sweet spot since the car has quite some understeer. please share your experiences and point me in the right direction.

also when hitting some bumps or sitting in the car slight squeaks are heard. thinking control arms? all feedback is helpful. thanks.

I’ve got a front and rear Hotchkiss on one of mine and I can definitely tell you it tightens things up a lot. These are big heavy cars and cornering is not their forte, but body roll is As alternatives, you can run S6 or RS6 bars, too. S6 may be the same or just slightly bigger and RS6 is definitely bigger.

As far as squeaks go, upper control arms would be my first bet. Another thing often overlook, but usually not a squeak per se, is the top hat bushings, too.

Honestly, on the Allroad, squeaks over bumps can be so many things

Strut mounts are the typical culprits. Your handling and steering feel would likely feel a bit clunky with control arms. The front rear lower CAs (the curved ones) tend to exhibit their failure symptoms on braking, so that's something to check. A visual inspection will do wonders. And if you replace any, make sure to get them torqued to spec at the ride height you will use the most (probaby Level 1 for most of us).

I had Hotchkis on my previous Allroad and currently on the RS. They're great. I did both F&R, and likened it to "turning a whale into an orca" w.r.t. handling. Sadly, the stock air ride will limit how well it will handle. I felt myself missing them earlier when I was taking an interchange between two highways and had to slow down significantly because the car rolls so much.

But you are right: the bigger bang for your buck will be the rear. Both are beefy bars compared to stock.

Upgrade your sway bar links while you are in there. The OE ones are plastic (on mine anyway), and there are some decent metal ones available as inexpensive replacement or upgrade like 034.

    my allroad

awesome. im planning on installing lug studs the previous owner provided because im sure ill have the wheels on and off and these are a b****. when im in there im going to look around at everything, might be wheel bearing as well I heard some squeaking faintly just while rolling. i’m going to try to find a decent used hotchkis set but if I can’t I may go for a new one we will see ig. I’m going on vacation tomorrow so hoping when I get back in a week i’ll have it on E. it is intimidating but i’m optimistic that Jfonz tunes might be okay.

I regreased and cleaned the dvs which was obviously never done because they were pretty much bone dry. When taking the first one off the 1/8 vacuum fitting broke because it’s plastic and probably almost as old as me. Tried to find the right one but the threads must be from UK or something. I got brass and plastic and the brass one didn’t thread but i made the plastic one thread with force. The nipple was 1/4 which is big but i stretched the hose over as much as possible. Trying to find a new fitting now that will work , if they still make it. Hopefully this will hold in the meantime. It would have taken me under an hour 🥲🥲

I just took a look at my spare set of Bailey Motorsport diverter valves, and they have gray plastic fittings marked with Norma 4 R1/8" on the sides like https://shop.normagroup.com/de_en/no...108910004.html, but that site indicates 'Sales only to distributors and industrial customers. But not to commercial and private end customers'. One of my diverter valves has a straight fitting while the other is a 90 degree fitting. I'm not sure where you could buy the Norma fittings, but I tried E-bay, and they have some listings from Germany, but the shipping is really high at around $38.

For the vacuum hose, I believe that I used braided vacuum hose with size 3.5mm ID and 7mm OD, and I got it thru RM European although it may be available elsewhere.

*** Update - I just did a quick search for Norma at the Audiworld site, and thread https://www.audiworld.com/forums/s4-...-what-2776359/
has some good info, and post #5 mentions that the fittings are just 1/8" NPT to a 1/8" hose barb so you can search for that.

Thanks for the help. I was on their website aswell, my fittings read the same. And i also saw some ebay listing but shipping is more than the product and i only need 1. It’s so weird i literally got 1/8 NPT TO 1/8 hose barb at ACE. And bought a plastic one after the brass one didn’t fit( too big), weird unless it was a machining error or something. I will order some up from amazon and try again. Thanks again Jim

I got brass and plastic and the brass one didn’t thread but i made the plastic one thread with force. The nipple was 1/4 which is big but i stretched the hose over as much as possible. Trying to find a new fitting now that will work , if they still make it. Hopefully this will hold in the meantime. It would have taken me under an hour 🥲🥲

it’s been pretty cold recently in philly and the knob gets ice cold so i’m assuming on the hot days it will definitely be absorbing the heat, it’s fine i’ll just throw a sock over it

will do, she’s holding up but definitely going to make it prettier with the brass fittings on both sides.
