Getting coolant flushed & tank res replaced. Let them do the tank or should I?

Getting my coolant flushed at a German shop next Weds. My tank has had a little seep towards the top for a bit now. Seems to be a infamous problems with these plastic things & the heat Audi motors put off. It will only lose about 6oz a month or so if that, but I'm OCD to keep it at MAX.

I'm obviously capable enough to do it myself & have done one in the past on my B5 S4. But is there anything that's a pain in the ass that can break easily or time clamps with the S5? It's a toss between paying them potentially a hour+ labor or going through the hassle to drain the tank myself and have to refill it only to get the coolant flushed/drained. Time is money however sometimes things are principal and most of us here are capable and willing to do things ourselves. But you know how it goes when you start touching clamps and hoses that have exposed to heat for years.

My guess it's a extra $120 on the bill for them to do it. But that's $100 more towards dem E-codes lol. BTW they quoted me about $140 for the coolant flush & clean out with BGK and refill. And $120 to "vacuum" out the power steering fluid and refill. I could probably do that myself with my air mighty vac.

I would do it myself ...If you have the stealership do it and something breaks, guess what...They are going to add that to your bill.

    Besides...thats more money for ecodes.

Super simple, only thing I would say is beware that the coolant lines running out of the top are pretty fragile. Mine basically crumbled. Don't be shocked if yours do the same and you have to order those as well. Plastic coolant lines/fittings probably wasn't the smartest design. My car originally came from Tucson, so the heat there may have played a factor in it for me.

This hose? I know the new tank comes with a new plastic fitting but not the hose. I also just seen on ECS they sell a purge/refill system which allows you to do it yourself with a compressor I assume. It only cost $100 & comes with the coolant, maybe I should just do this myself? Basically pays for itself in one use. Although they said they would flush the system out with BGK to clear any buildup & would have to drain the coolant myself which could make a mess. For them to drain flush and refill was about $150 including the G13.

Should be cake draining the expansion tank. I'll just use my mighty vac I vacuum my oil out with, I'll just grab a new hose off Amazon. Probably use it to vacuum and refill my power steering fluid out as well now that the weather is nice.

There's two hoses, one to the throttle body (if I recall correctly) and a second to the radiator. Both mine were garbage, the fittings on those are what crumbled. There's not really fittings on the overflow itself. Like I said, super simple and I wouldn't bother with ECS' system. Just clamp the larger hose and keep the two small ones elevated so it doesn't drain.

Ok cool. I just went out and checked my hoses and fittings and they actually looked good. Maybe I'll just order them from ECS and send them back if I don't need them. They are like $60+ each.

    Welp... You called it lol.

Apparently mine was already leaking, i wonder if the damn res even had a seep, he said it did in the back. Eh, at least i have a nice new one, the other one was showing its age & a nice new clear one looks better at least. I ran short on time this week to replace it myself and had them do it. Total came to a little higher than I wanted, but it's all fixed now with piece of mind.

-Coolant flush service with BGK & refill with G13 was $153

-That damn hose that "supposedly" already seeping was like $97. This is what shot the bill up unexpectedly

-New coolant res tank was $133

All in all with a slight bill discount and labor & parts came to $467

Also "noted" with a free evaluation to probably get more of my money lol.

-Front upper control arm bushings are showing their age and cracking. I mean expected with the age of the car and miles getting up there. But thats on the list with new control arms up front.

-Slight seep from right rear shock, also expected as they have 88k on them and have been on lowering springs, car still drives damn good.

That's all on the list that me & my buddy will replace early summer. Coils, bushings, control arms.

MO MONEY, MO MONEY, But hey car has been almost bullet proof for me. It was due for something!

I can't quite recall the price on that hose, but that's not too outlandish. Reservoir probably was leaking as well. It's pretty common and if nothing else, is a good piece of mind.
