No dealership should be fully trusted. Their dealerships after all....

The only silver lining and I can provide myself is that we're still in the pandemic, I'll be working from home for the foreseeable future, and wont be driving much. Will save over $1,000/mth in the interim and just hope the 2022's are solid.

As far as I'm concerned, your dealership did you a dirty - didn't have a changeable allocation and couldn't get one off someone else.

Picking up on this thread, again.

Decided to hold off on putting in my build at the beginning of last year and now I'm back in the market to build a 2022 S5 Coupe.

Anyone have the current estimated lead time from build order to delivery? I was told they are faster now, 4-6 months instead of 8-9 but I don't know who or what to believe.

Aside from that the lack of deals audi is giving (in fact they are marking up cars 7-9k) is turning me off....But I want my car lol.

all depends if they have allocation. 4-8 months is what should be quoted. There won't be many coupes made at all

The issue is chip shortages. I got my MY21 S5 coupe in 4 months just before the chip shortage really snowballed. Assuming available allocation, I would not be surprised if it is closer to 6+ months and expect the dates to continuously change. Expect the phone box to be missing with some credit back and only getting one key fob on delivery (with a second fob to be delivered later on). The SB and cab appear to have longer delays from recent reports.

I'm putting in for a 2022 S5 Coupe build next week and I was told it should be closer to 4 months than 6. Either way it's no issue with me. I'd rather get the car in May anyway. I have a BMW 640i GT M-Sport that I assumed for the next 7 months, for no cost aside from insurance. It's good having rich friends lol.

Unless your dealer actually has an allocation for a 2022 S5 cab, your order will sit and wait and it will not be built for model year 2022. Audi has ceased accepting new orders for the rest of the year at this point

Meant to say coupe, cab, SB, does not matter. If they don’t have an existing, changeable order, the car will not be built at all. All they are doing for the foreseeable future is shipping cars with similar specs in a few color combos (vs allowing a build to spec order)

Thanks for the input. Can you please provide proof to back up your statement of affirmation? Because that's not what I've been told by numerous dealers, including the one I am working with. Audi IS accepting build orders..

The only way an order is being done is if the dealer already has an existing order, that was accepted, and is not yet frozen to changes. Aka, the order is already in their pipeline. If it’s not, it will sit, for the time being. If the shortages can be eased leading up to year end, orders may resume in Q1. As of yet, it has not been determined.

The cars coming in now are a combination of cars previously ordered (either for inventory, or, as client builds), and, mainly, vehicles Audi USA ordered, that will be distributed among the dealer network (but not cars the dealer specifically ordered). There are TONS of orders in the pipeline, for every vehicle imaginable, sitting since ~June, just waitlisted, indefinitely.

Got it. I reached out to my contact and he said to be safe assume 7-9 months. That's fine with me.

I'll extend the BMW lease if needed until the S5 is built.

    Appreciate the insight dude.

Looks like my car is on the ship heading towards San Diego. Are the delivery dates somewhat accurate or are there delays due to the supply chain issues (not Semiconductor, but all the other port-related backups)?

    Looking for an update please

    Comm#: 3B2396

    Dealer: Audi of Frederick, MD.

At this time all orders are WAITLISTED as there are and have not been any allocations for any model since last summer.

My Audi specialist notified me on Friday that there is no update as of now but Audi said they will be picking up a good amount of orders this month.
He also enrolled me in owner in waiting program so I'll start getting updated once a production week is scheduled. In the mean time I have a 2019 BMW 640i GT M-Sport to play with until the S5 is built, May or later.

Does the Owner in Waiting program still exist? My dealer insists it doesn't... so I have to email or call every couple of weeks to see if there's any news. Ordered in late July and still waiting.

In this day of everything digital, why is it so hard to get updates on the process?

yes it exists - it's often useless. Why? Because not everything is known, and people don't often read what the updates actually say (and what they don't say).

The process has been well documented here many, many, many times. It should also be communicated to you, up front, from the person you're buying the actual car from. If they can't or won't (as we so often see), find another dealer who will.

The news is: there is no news. When will there be news? We don't yet know. Even when we do know some info, for any car, expect your estimated dates to move...sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.

Sounds about right. It took me a number of dealers before finding the right one, and at the right price. I put in my build order in October and was estimated at May, with a % error of 1-2 months in either direction. That's fine with me. If it ends up being June or July I'm ok with that. I have a BMW lease that ends in May and the I can always extend it.

In this environment I wouldn't trust anyone's word as a sure thing.

I think an October order with a May delivery is very, very optimistic. I would bet that it is closer to August / September....

Hoping RMode or someone can make sure I'm understanding this correctly...

I received a commission number recently for a 2023 RS3. Am I correct in saying that this does NOT indicate my dealer has an allocation for a '23 RS3? In other words, the comm# just means my dealer put me on a list to Audi saying "hey I have a customer who wants this car", but it does not mean there is actually a slot open for my order to go into production... right?

You are correct. RMode and other Audi experts are very active in the following thread. You may want to post this question there:

I was genuinely disappointed by the fact I had to badger my salesperson at the dealership for updates on my order. Assuming they already track orders internally, surfacing some of that data to the customer via a webpage should not be that difficult and is the bare minimum of what I would expect from any brand, let alone a premium one.
