Not gonna tune, what mods are worth doing?

The whole point of me buying the s3 was that I needed a new car with a warranty that I wouldn't have to worry about and would be fun to drive out of the box. I know never say never but the fear of TD1 is real and I have no plans to do it at this point. Im told piggy backs are still safe but I need a little more clarity first. First mod will likely be spacers, Im so confused why they can't put wheels that fit properly on cars. I really love the way the car sounds but would like it to be a little louder. Are intakes and exhaust mods with it without a tune?

Get the OEM Resonator Delete if you don't already have it, sounds great, and won't do anything to your warranty.

If by little louder you mean %5 to %10 a factory resonator delete might help. Search youtube for sound comparison videos.
I'm also interested to know about the TD1 situation.

I'm in the same boat somewhat. Mine is remaining stock in the tuning aspect.

I've heard good things about the Emmanuele Design lower springs especially when running the Magride system.

Only thing I'm running is ED springs and wider wheels and tires. If you're in the market for wheels? Most people run an 8.5" wide wheel to be safe.

Tires tires tires !!! Then a rear sway bar. Then springs. I'd just get coilovers though. (will cost as much a spring install), parts and labor that is) just unbolt your catback, will be loud and obnoxious but you'll gain some power and DSG farts that turns heads. Speaking from experience here

I'd get jb1/jb4. It can be removed for service and does not trigger TD1 and putting you around the 325+ mark. All other bolt on mods, other than a downpipe, will give you incremental gains considering their price. Most are just aesthetics.

Also, save yourself money and don't get an intake, they all are outrageously priced with minimal gains. An intake inlet pipe with a k&n filter will give you the same results for about 1/3 price.

If you want more sound get a used resonator (they seem to pop up often on forums) as that will give you a little but more sound. However, DP is the most dramatic for sound.

Any suspension upgrades are worth doing. Brake upgrades. Intercooler. Ecodes as they completely change the face of the vehicle. Tint. Wheels.

I believe you'll need a tune to run a DP without throwing a CEL.

Depends on the car it seems, S3 seems to throw codes more often than A3. My A3 never gave me any hassle, no spacer, no cel using USP catted DP.

All I did for my exhaust was the Audi resonator delete and then I unplugged the plugs on either side of the muffler for controlling the 2 flaps. Now the flaps are always open. The combination of the two, resonator delete and the unplugged flaps gives a nice sound. Louder but not over the top. Oh, took the car in to Audi for a side marker light recall and the tech loved the sound of the car. Aside from that I have done clear bra, window tint, 034 Motorsports rear sway bar and their lowering springs. The car is perfect.

thanks guys, I've heard conflicting things about intakes and exhausts. My friend who works on all my audis says the 034 intake is the best but just do the plastic one. He says the exhaust really aren't worth it. I like the idea of doing the resonator delete just to get a little more sound. I'm sure ill lower it eventually but for now spacers are a must! The thought of my wife driving it lowered is enough to keep me from lowering it!

On my 2016 S3, I've been running the OEM resonator delete and an APR carbon fiber intake. Noise wasn't enough, and I'm about to upgrade to an AWE Switchpath exhaust at the end of this week.

I'd recommend listening to exhausts before you settle (albeit at a much lower cost, $250 vs. $1700) for just a res delete :) In any case, go for the res delete first, see how you feel about it. Downpipe is nice and loud, but it's always loud; a valved exhaust lets you choose how loud you'd like to be over or under 3k RPM, or with a remote to open the flaps. Also look into a Turbo Muffler Delete if you're looking for the "whoosh" turbo noises.

I would say ECS tuning polyurethane front control arm is one of the best mods that I had on my car.

Aside from a tune and better breathing via downpipe, IMO nothing impacts the drivability more than a lighter set of wheels/tires. Saving weight per corner will be very noticeable in all respects (ride, handling and acceleration).
