AWE Coolant Reservoir paired with APR Intercooler?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I am in the process of getting my b8 ready for the track this season. I snagged up one of the APR intercoolers on sale for $450 (yes, I know a new system is upcoming), however unfortunately the coolant separator is out-of-stock everywhere it seems.

This has obviously led me to look at my other options for a separator/reservoir when I came across the AWE system. Would I be able to pair the AWE reservoir with the APR intercooler? The AWE states that it also works with the stock intercooler so I do not see why I would not be able to..

Any and all help is appreciate, thanks!

Absolutely. Should be easier to bleed using that location too.

Some additional information if you want it:

PLM offers a reservoir for pretty cheap that greatly expands the fluid capacity but does not divorce the loops.
AWE and Revo both offer reservoirs that are small and will divorce the loops.

I have the AWE one on my car, it is solid but the cap is a little annoying to remove and that is the only way to check coolant levels. (AWE, if you are listening put a window on the lid!)

ditto on the cap pita to check coolant but AWE reservoir even that small difference changed my IAT's with stock HE. Looking at cobra style HE to replace stock HE now so I can add dual fans with cowl for city driving IAT reduction.

I added a 7" fan to my APR HX. Only $25 at frozenboost.com. Results were just a little better than having the AC fans on.

I use the AFCO Ford GT500 double pass heat exchanger with AWE tank. I am DP and the car performs great at the track (road course). I bought the car with this upgrade already done so I don't have a lot of info but will take pictures next time I have it apart.

Just the AWE reservoir dropped IAT'S about 5 or more degrees from stock which takes me right to high 60C's IAT for most pulls even in with ambient +90F, but won't cut it DP so need new HE. A big problem with any divorced system is you won't know if you have a coolant leak especially like one the LOE had at the intercooler and checking with the AWE cap is a pain. Side note: the AWE design will remove air if coolant filled properly but if you get too low you'll put air into coolant, so I check pretty often. I may reconnect when I get new HE for safety sake.

I mounted mine directly behind the hx. It just barely fit depth wise.

Did you have to build/buy anything to mount it? any guide?
