    Shift Paddle Extensions...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Yep...

As much as it pains me to ask, does anyone here have experience with the myriad of crappy looking paddle shift extensions?

I've got the smaller paddle shifters, and they are just too small to easily use both on the track and daily driver. Daily driving, my hands are lower on the wheel, and I have to reach to shift (I drive in manual mode almost exclusively). On the track, it's awkward in 180 degree tighter turns. I loved my S2T aftermarket paddles on my 8P A3 3.2, but nothing is offered for the 8V chassis but extenders.

Aside from the carbon $400+ stuff, anyone like any of the cheap China offerings?

Thanks. Saw this. Those are pretty atrocious and gignatic. I'm hoping for something in between stock, and that, hahah!

S2T has said "soon" for 2 years now.

I guess I could always shave them down a bit! I don't need anything taller, just a bit wider and lower. Also, car is a lease; not terribly enthused by the notion of set screws holding the paddles onto the stock paddles.

If you're not in a facelift there are tons of paddles out there. Google is your friend. And actually my paddles aren't atrocious at all; they're functional and they blend in with the interior.

I have these for my RS5 in ceramic black with red lettering. Works great and nice quality. Didn't pay 700 for CF paddles either.

I am having a tough time trying to find a set that sits my 16'. I bought 1st the ones like above pictured but they were completely off as I have the following paddles OEM...

    [IMG][/IMG]

I then bought a set from Pinalloy and waited for it to ship only to THEN find out there are 2 versions for my paddles....FLAT and CURVED. Well mine are OEM curved and these that shipped are flat......

I might just change out my OEM paddles now....

My car is a lease, I can't have little dimples on the shifter paddles for those set screws.

I used the tapping screws and it was instant regret. They leave large painful marks on the original paddles, and you can see them if you're meticulous like me. I honestly doubt the dealer will spot it when you return the lease, but still I think it is plain wrong to do this to a $50k car. Just use double sided tape.

Okay....... So I thought I ordered the right paddles for my car only to find out they don't fit...even the curved ones..... seems like they are a couple of mm's off....

I don't understand......The anticipation of waiting for them to arrive only to be let down is crazy! This is the 3rd time....

You have a 2016 model? I have been looking around for a set for my 2016 S3. I was going to buy the set of amazon because I thought returns would be easy if they didn't fit, but I am pretty sure they are from pin alloy. I know how it is when you patiently wait for something and then it ends up not working out. Keep us posted if you find a set that works.

1st set was from ebay....the paddles were completely off. 2nd were from pinalloy and later found out there are 2 versions....flat and curved...ordered the flat and did not fit as my oem are curved. So I ordered a 3rd thinking it is $$$ but they are off ever so slightly too small. I might buy a set of OEM paddles to fit the extensions....that's how #@!#$*! I am.....lol

Ya mine is 2016 S3 Canadian version if that matters? My oem paddles are like the pic below....

On Pinalloy's site, they show non silver ones...mine are silver so perhaps the silver accents are slightly larger. I have seen OEM paddles on Ebay go for cheap so that's an alternative

What would someone pay for a decent set? I can easily machine these. If the interest is there I can do it.

I really wish S2T would make some paddles for us. They look great and are actually installed, versus stuck on. http://www.s2tpp.com/Audi-Paddle-Details.html

Where did you get these from? I'm assuming they stick on with adhesive?

I ended up just using 3m adhesive tape as I didn't want to damage the oem paddles. It was posted that the set screw may dimple the paddle

good.. I'm glad I saved at least one person.

does anyone know the OEM part # of the facelift shift paddles? I actually am thinking of replacing them.. the dimple marks are huge and are visible even with the extensions installed, thanks to my mild OCD.

If I was replacing them altogether, I'd just upgrade to these bad boys. Miffed they reverted to the cheaper black plastic versions for the FL.

Careful, the "Elephant ears" paddle shifters might have a different base that only fitted 2015 8V model years.

Good point, must do the homework first. Can anyone here confirm if the bases are the same? I'm interested in that upgrade myself...

I'm hear ya @jiannu. Everyone thinks its so easy to find Pre Face-lift paddle extensions but it's tricky. In looking for the correct one for my 2016 PFL, I'm discovering there are multiple iterations of paddles for the 8V (at least the North American models):

    PFL
    2015: elephant ears
2016: silver faced curved back (maybe also a flat back version as well?)

    FL
2017: black faced version with different positioning of the three ribs on back (vs. 2016). I'm unsure if its curved or flat back; if any FL owners want confirm, that would be great.

3 maybe even 4 versions for president face lift

    Big elephant ear
    Flat small black
    Curved small silver
    Curved small black

I'm going to wait it out as a few manufactures are coming out with more designs for our cars. Watch out for Leyo Motorsports as they have a nice cool design...works very similar to the ones with screw on but they have a design in which it lowers a bar and they "click" into oem paddles. Another design I saw in which they have similar concept but they claim too less so I'm guessing they snap or click into place by shiftkoncepts

Ya, I've been tracking Leyo's PD Shifters Instagram page and love the new design. Unfortunately they've not answer my questions regarding 2016 shifters which leads me to think they are unaware of all the different iterations on the 8V.

    Thx for the other tips.

What I'm most likely going to do is make a thread regarding it, I'm going to do a little more research and what people exactly want as in size bigger or what is currently being sold etc. will be made from aluminum and can be iodized as well too

I would also be interested! My concern is how you would be be able scan the curved back of the 2016 PFL paddles for machining.

Easiest way is to buy a set of existing paddle extensions and measure that - take advantage of existing work.

Don't know if you guys are in the Audi a3/s3/rs3 facebook page, but there is a gentleman there that is part of WinnAutosports, he was promoting the extended paddle shifters a couple weeks ago and I picked a set up. It looks and feels really good, I opted for the black color because I didn't want it to pop too much, perfect size for track/daily and my favorite part is that its not invasive at all. Very OEM+.
Another big plus is that it actually screws into itself, not the paddle so no dimple from the pressure holding it on.
Make sure however, before you order, there are 3 different options for the paddles. Be sure to check what size will fit on your S3 because I made the mistake of not checking and had to send it back and pay more for shipping.

HUGE kudos to the recommendation for WINN. I saw the post above and ordered Friday and they arrived today. The quality not only of the paddles is top notch, so is the packaging. I registered just to share my thanks and feedback :)

Thanks for posting your feedback. I really love how those are attached to the OE paddles, but just wished they are a bit wider (extends more toward the sides of the wheel). Just the OP, I want something that extends wider, not taller.

Disclaimer: I haven't actually used them yet :)
