Is this follower ready to be replaced

Just going over a car I bought figure I better check out the can follower. Looks ready to change in my opinion!

I don't like throwing money away (though I feel like its all I've done with my avant) but I feel that if you've pulled the cam follower to check it, you might as well replace it considering how cheap they are.

But yes, that one looks like it could use a replacement

Now if I could get ride of the surge.. I might just throw a low miles used trans and converter in to try it.

. Unless it had a new torque converter

at 300 i wouldn't mind trying rather than 1500 on a new converter

Exactly. Same here. Thats why I'm confused as to why someone would throw money away throwing in a used transmission thats just going to end up with the same issue.

And to answer my own question - No, audi isn't doing anything about it.

That follower looks like mine when I pulled it out at 110KM, think it was never replaced before.

What mileage was your car when you pulled it out?

yes i bought it for my wife.. the surge drives her crazy.. i'm still not 100 percent that its even the converter, gonna look at the tcc on vag and see if its locking and unlocking while surging. today after changing the follower and cleaning throttle body, maf and replacing air filter, i thought i had it fixed didn't seem to surge till i was almost home, but traffic was shitty and didn't hold a steady speed for long enough i guess.. i also notice that it does it while mildly accelerating. the tach increases in steps not a smooth sweep.

also looked at the tops of the intakje valves with my bore scope.. not as carboned up as i'd expect but there was some

Ive heard of some of the guys with this issue

the fluid and updated the TCU and it went away. And some did this and the probably persisted

. Its a hit or miss situation
