    Best car under $50k

I am currently looking for something more fun for a weekend cruiser. If you had a 50k dollar budget, what would you buy? I am leaning towards a GTR which is stretching the budget a bit but doable.

slightly used m3 or m5. AMG is pretty nice also. Used rs6 or rs7 will be pretty fun with lots of room. Or get a corvette. Nothin is mo merican then the sound of the bald eagles comin from the LS.

$50k isn't going to buy you a GTR worth having. That pretty much guarantees you a 2009, and the transmissions are grenades in those earlier models. At one point they started to get down below 50k 2-3 years ago, but they've come back up in value, and you're only going to find high mileage examples for that price I'm suspecting. I mean, it's possible, but it's a stretch. That's still a very healthy budget for a weekend toy though, so you've got plenty of options.

Maybe to help narrow it down, is there some specifics that you're after like coupe, awd or rwd, turbo/supercharger/NA preference, german/japanese/domestic matter? etc.

If you are indeed talking about raw fun, then an M4 is getting into your range. A good M5 would still be somewhat outside that number.

Nothing delivers the fun element like a rear drive sport coup.

It sounds crazy but I am honestly completely open as far as 2 or 4 door. I prefer manual. I just really wanna upgrade to something with more power. I wanna be in the 500 whp range with bolt ons. I drove a Maserati Granturismo and it was actually a very nice driving car and fairly quick. Just scared of reliability and maintenance issues since I am not too familiar with them. I drove an RS5 and it was an amazing car, just not quite as much torque as I was expecting. I would love to check out an RS7 if anyone local to Charlotte NC would be willing to take me for a spin.

Vettes, V, you could maybe source a GT350 for around 50...

The 500 for 50 turns this into a domestic battle imo lol

I'll just warn you against a Corvette or V car. I'm at 650hp and 800hp is only a couple grand away but already the upgraded 305 rear tires are completely useless on the streets. If you get a vette or v car, beware that modding it may make it slower :)

    Hmmm, 50 grand.

For 50 grand you could get a CPO S5 and dual pulley it with cooling and you'd have a reliable mid 11 second car for 35grand all-in.

Then take the 15 grand and ... the answer is always track Miata :P

I always take these threads as stock discussions. Because at that point you could say boosted s2000. Or a v8 EK hatch. It's fruitless.

Oh man, for me if BIG power and fun to drive under $50k were the qualifications it's a 997 Turbo all day. Manual trans, engaging as hell, good amount of practicality in cargo (for a coupe) and all season AWD and fiddle with it and you're sub 3s 0-60. They LOVE to launch. Very very VERY fun cars to mess about in. Community is great and they look great/nice materials in and out.

Wait a year then get a used 17 Camaro ZL1? That would be over your 500hp request and be newish still to where you don't have to worry about crazy maint. :) Yes it is still a Camaro but the new platforms are performing really well at least in reviews I have read.

I had a 10 C63 and that car was awesome but figure double the maint costs of the audi at least.
    14 S5 w/ black optics - Current
15 GTI - Was fun and new but the looks of the S5...
10 C63 - what a motor, what a cost to keep the thing maintained
08 Charger SRT8 Superbee - 4 doors American muscle with room for the Nephews.
05 CTS-V - 1st gen with a terrible gear box. Was fun but not a fun to drive all the time.
03 CL Type S - the only year they had a 6mt. Was a great car but traded it in as the paint started oxidizing

You can pick up a slightly used 2016 for just over 50k. But new, yeah, 60k seems about the average. There is a guy that traded in his M3 for a GT350 and loves it (plus he owns a GT3). Granted, the interior is a bit of a mess, but overall seems like a pretty solid car.

I had a C5 from 03-09 and to this day it's the most fun care I have ever owned. The looks you get. The performance. The sound. It's the whole package
    The new C7 looks outstanding.

I bought a V wagon. Bolt ons can bring it to 600WHP (on E85) and 570WHP on 93. I would say a V or a c6 Z06 because it is a TON of fun car for the money. You can get one and have a bunch of money left over for modding. Or you can buy a c6 Grandsport and throw a blower on it... Used Camaro ZL1.... etc

2007/8s are fairly easy to find hovering around $50k. You're not getting much under $50 but it's within budget.

Im not keen on Corvettes just because in my area they are a dime a dozen. I can drive to the grocery store and see 3 in the parking lot. Looks like I am in for a tougher decision than I thought. I might try looking at some 997 Turbos if I can stay close to budget.
