55W LED Light bar for extra light (5000 LM)

    Hello all,

I am craving for more light, I think my stock HIDs are not that effective, its a 2010 car, may be it lost some its original shine. I do NOT want to invest any money trying to upgrade the existing headlight assembly based on how "not easy" it is. (atleast thats what it looks like).

What do you guys think about integrating a light bar to the grill? Something like below, however, I am pretty sure I have to cut the grill to make room for the 3 inch high light bar.

Here is the LED bar I am considering to buy -

Also, can I use the Fog lamp's electrical connections to energize the LED bar? This way I can avoid having an extra switch for the light bar. (I dont really care for the existing fog lamps, so, I may keep it turned off permantly).

Hope this is not too wild of an idea for A6, appreciate your views.

    Thanks
    RV

Awesome, I didn't think of adding the RS grill, not a bad idea considering it will give a better look as well.

How is the flood/spot combo working out? Hope its not strong enough to bother the incoming traffic.

Yes. It will bother traffic and DO NOT use it when there are other cars, coming towards you or infront of you.

Not only is it illegal, it's very unsafe.

I'm putting a 23" bar in the same location behind my grill for the added light when there is no one else around. I live in the country and often have open back roads I travel...

A light bar really? I thought those were synonymous with bro dozers...

I was toying with the idea of going old school with a pair of PIAA driving lights but I can't get around that they'd stick out like a sore thumb. Not like mounting a pair on my old BMW 2002...

    For Pete's sake. Why?

Do you live outside of the city with loads of off road use? Planning to use the car off road?

Thought you guys usually use these type bars on top of the pick up trucks?

Didn't meant to offend anyone but those led bars look best on pick up trucks, imho.

Don't know the US road law but, as being said already, it may cause more harm than good, to you and other road users.

Kriskrk, You obviously don't live somewhere that you find your self wishing you had more light, at night on back country highways where deer love to graze on the sides and dart into traffic.

The US varies greatly in its terrain. Not everyone lives in cities, and some of us who never leave the roadway still benefit greatly from the additional light out put of a led bar or extra driving lights.

I've hit 2 deer, the first time in my same audi it did $11,500 in damage and luckily I was only going 35 mph. We're talking deer that weigh 130 - 200lbs (average white tail deer is 150lbs )
These things do some damage where I live, and since having an LED bar on either my truck, or cars I've had multiple instances where I absolutely was able to avoid the deer by being able to see them, slow down and when they DID jump
into the road I was slow enough to stop or avoid them.

Sometimes Practicality and function out weighs looks and appearance. In my personal situation it's no question.

Now, Please Note that these are never used when there is other traffic. If there headlights visible in front of me, the led bar is NOT on. These can not be used with other traffic because they are obviously unsafe for other drivers.
It's no different than high beams, or adding lights. They are only used when there is no other traffic and you're alone. Which is VERY common where I live.
I have an extreme hatred, for drivers who use Hi-Beams and extra driving lights or Light bars like these impropely and around other traffic. My wife calls me a Headlight Nazi...

    Just my opinion and perspective.

I have some adjusting to do, and probably going to upgrade to a larger bar as well in the future.
I also bought two smaller 6" LED Floods to mount into the fog light trim housing and be angled outwards for extra light where the deer like to sit on the sides of the roads.

I just bought new Xenon bulbs for my stock headlights (the stocks are trash) from Retrofit source and it was literally night and day. $70 and 30 mins (maybe) of my time. I loathe light bars with a passion. Just my opinion.

    Thanks
