Anyone using a cheap obdii scanner?

I've seen several around Amazon and eBay for around 15$ that are catered to Android phones and wanted to use one to reset my CEL. Is anyone using one of these? I wanted to make sure it would work with a b6.

Pick up an ELM327 OBDII bluetooth transmitter ($8.00) Clicky click® and then Load TorquePro ($4.95) Clicky click® from Googleplay.

    Use mine daily.

I have had a CEL pop up, read it and cleared it without even stopping the car.

I leave my phone in the cupholder and just use the touch screen so "technically" I'm hands free

Got the same combo, best 14 bucks I've ever spent. Torque can do logging, as well. And it has access to all the car's sensors. Great app!!

Will a bluetooth OBDII transmitter work with VCDS-lite or the full version?

neither, if you want a wireless VCDS solution you have to pony up for the VCDS HEX-NET interface

well that would probably depends, If it shows up as a generic com port and just transfers serial data then it will most likely work, but if trying to use it with the vcds wireless protocol definitely not, again depends on the serial port the device makes(which depends on the bluetooth protocol used) as the computer shouldn't know the difference if it shows as a generic com port.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I have a blue/generic OBD-II USB cable I use for flashing/logging, a genuine VCDS HEX-CAN USB cable, and a generic/ELM BT module I use with Torque on my phone

I've tried using a number of these cheap/generic BT adapters as dumb serial ports with VCDS-Lite, and they work intermittently at best. YMMV

    I have one of these:

    http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/s...-rosstech-vcds

The software is definitely hacked, but it works 100% and supports my GF's MK6 too.

I modified the hosts file so VCDS can't reach out to the update servers. Just google the way to do this.

Usually I'd pay for the full product but this new VIN limitation is BS.

    I like that idea!

I'm guessing it does everything like a normal VCDS on a laptop would, scanning, logging output tests?

I use a windows tablet too but always seems to be dead when i go to use it and yesterday's update killed my ECU communication

Edit: I rolled back to the previous build of Windows 10 and VCDS lite works again; I reported this to Microsoft.

I use elm Bt reader and I also bought X-tool VAG401 on amazon for $60 shipped which can code just like VCDS/Vagcom though definitely less user friendly (not for novice vcds users). Its supposed to do nearly everything VCDS can do.

Just picked up one of those VAG401s and i can see that it is powerful as a handheld, standalone system. But holy hell is it going to take some learning. Im going to be spending a lot of time reading at Ross-tech to find out which modules are where and what the block values should be. But overall pretty cool piece of tech.

Kt- how do you like it and do you have a good resource page that i can look at? Thanks!
