    Time for new Front rotor ; Stoptech, Brembo, 2-piece ? Slotted, drilled, weight redu

    So, I'm a do it once, do it right -type of guy. I'm brake are due and I'm replacing them with the brembo Q5 caliper, along with SS hose, new fluid.. As far as pad goes, I will most likely be buying the new Brembo HP2000 brake pad.

    1) Weight reduction performance

    I went from the 56lbs wheel OEM combo to a 40lbs combo and it really made a good difference !! So i'm a believer at reducing unsprung mass. Hence why i'm interesting in 2-piece rotor design which can save you about 5 lbs per rotor. However, I'm also wondering if the 5lbs is enough to make a difference since the rotor is BOLTED right on the hub instead of more far away like a wheel is. From my reading on this forum for over a year, I haven't found any conclusive data/feedback that proves that the 5lbs reduction is beneficial....

    2) Metalurgy composition ;

    I know this is hard for us to determine if the metal composition of the rotor is good quality or not, but this is something I greatly believes in. A rotor isn't just a blank of metal ; The quality of the metal matters and this is why I'm hesitating going with 2-pieces because I don't trust ECS or JHM and I'm unsure about Apikol or Girodisc ( Actually, girodisc would be the one I would trust more..) What you guys thinks about that ?

    3) 1 piece rotor ;
    So this is why I turned myself to 1 piece instead and the choice is huge .. Stoptech offer cryo-coating, slot , no slot, drilled, blank etc.

    Brembo also have a new offering but not available in the US, so I will have to order from Europe ; the Xtra disc .. read on the description. it comes up at about 350$ which is pretty much the same as the Stoptech with cryo and all that stuff.

    So yeah... what are your though/ knowledge in this field ?

    Would you still go for 2-piece or just go 1piece ?

    Since you are a "do it once do it right" type of guy you should go for 2 piece. I'd suggest girodisc so in the future when you need to change rotors you just buy rings from them. Also, they are one of the only companies that make 2 piece rotors that are only slotted not drilled for our car.

    I went wih the Q5 Brembo kit from ECS with the two piece rotors. I'm very pleased with the kit and the rotors look great. I'm glad I ended up with the 2 piece instead of the 1 piece, simply from an aesthetic perspective.

    Curious to see what the price difference would be for everything you are piecing together versus a BBK say from Stoptech or Brembo. If you're going to "do it once, and do it right", perhaps save a few more dollars and buy a kit that is specifically made for our cars? I live by your motto, and also live by the "but once, cry once" way of life as well.

    Stoptech BBK (non Trophy) kits can be had for pretty reasonably if you shop around. ~$2,600.00 for a kit with the right metallurgy, correct piston sizes, and bias.
