    Tips on removing window trim

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anybody removed all of the window trim on a B7 S4 Avant? Is it possible to remove it and re-instal without damaging it?

Goal is to remove it and paint it to match the roof rails. Show doesn't want to paint it while on the car.

    Thanks.

    I can't say they I've done it...

Though I remember reading into it and it involved drilling out the rivets from the inside of a stripped and split.

I'd wrap it. I did it to mine and I love the look (plus it's not permanent). Pretty easy to do too.

I remember reading awhile ago that several folks did it in the B6/7 A4 sections. Might be worth posting there as well.

Couple updates on this.. I have the roof rails at powder coat shop, so I had them do a test on a piece of door trim.. see below. Looks pretty good. Next question is if the trim can be removed and reinstalled without breaking. The shop that's doing my car is going to have their glass guy come take a look.. baring that, I have the option of ordering a set of black trim from the factory (ti package) for $1,200 shipped.. or I can just have it wrapped.. which is looking more and more attractive.

I ended up using shadow line window trim to wrap mine and it came out great. I was in a similar situation and couldn't justify the cost of getting a new set.

They come off pretty easily, once the rear side windows have been removed. There are concealed rivets to drill out, same under the plastic trail that just unclips.

Had to cover my trim and mirrors they were so discolored from sitting in an auction lot. Even tried professional cleaning.

I was curious about this as well, the P.O. of my car must have hit the chrome trim at some point. It has a minor crease on the driver door. Had to be the driver door too where I see it all the time.
