Broke down on the side of the highway

Driving I93 to a concert going around 80 (speed limit is 70) and noticed my coolant light come on and my temp gauge spike at the same time so I pull over. Noticed coolant leaking so I let it cool off and I top it off with more coolant and turn around to head back home. Barely make it a mile and my light comes back on and coolant is now completely gone out of it. So I get the car towed and a friend picked me up and head back to the concert. I also noticed the power steering got stiffer.

So my question is that, should I look at something specifically or do a general look around when I get back home? The reason why I ask is because the power steering stiffening up is throwing me a curve ball.

Check the coolant flange on the back of the head and the top heater core hose coupler which connect to it. One or both of those things could be bad in this case. Those aren't things that are easy to keep an eye on so they typically fail catastrophic Lee at the worst times. At least unexpectedly. You can check your radiator as well. Or maybe your head is cracked or head gasket is bad.

The thermostat is supposed to fail in the open position but it is possible that it will fail shut.

Could be something simple as a cracked or torn hose, plastic coolant adapter or coolant flange / sensor retaining clip, etc. Or something more major like a water pump bearing or the radiator. Best way is the pressure the system and look for obvious leaks. Good luck.

Not saying this is what happened, but I have had my thermostat fail in the closed position, just 2 weeks ago actually.

A place between here and there

Check your PS reservoir and serpentine belt, too. Locate source of leak...replace compromised part.

Scanned my car when I got home and these codes came up, as well as misfire codes. Could these be related to having all of my coolant leaking out of my car?

    16399 - Bank 1: Camshaft B (Exhaust)
    P0015 - 002 - Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded) - MIL ON

18405 - Friction too High; Exhaust Cam Adjustment Bank 1
    P1997 - 002 -

19537 - Engine Temperature too Low
    P3081 - 008 - - MIL ON
