Can I remove the 3 nuts on DS and PS that hold bumper on, and leave it like that?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The front bumper is held on my the 3 nuts on each side in question, 2 bolts that go into the front crash bar and 2 or 4 more bolts up above the headlight.

I am wondering if I can remove the 3 bolts on each side and just leave the remainder of the bolts to hold the bumper on? This would allow for front bumper removal without the need to remove the headlights to get at these 3 nuts.

    Anyone ever do this ?

To clarify, thanks to Bmase fir the correct terminology...

I am speaking of removing the 6 bolts in the fender wells, and leaving the remainder of the bolts in place.

The bumper wont hold on to well Its not to hard to peel the fender cover back to remove bolts or maybe even drill 3 holes for 10mm socket to fit in the hole for easy access but other then that i dont see it holding with out the fender bolted to the bumper

The bumper isn't held on by anything by the headlights. It's just the two bumper shock bolts and the three nuts on each side.

I think you're thinking of the bolts you need to remove to put the front end into the service position.

hes talking about those 3 nuts on each side I believe, And I would not recommend it as a good gust of wind on the highway can pull the bumper from the lower clips if those are not in. Not likely but it could happen. Its not like removing the headlights is hard, its a 2 minute job.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Agreed. I have the Evolution Racewerks comp FMIC and the bumper is now only held on by those 6 fender to bumper bolts. I can't see anything good coming out of not using those to hold the bumper on. They keep the gap tight and if not used, the bumper will pop out of the side retainer that holds the lower spoiler on.

Correct, thank you for the clarification...I had the 2 procedures melded into one in my mind.

Now there is a smart idea, especially with all the other concerns regarding not using these fender well bolts.

It is not the removal, it is the re-aiming I like to avoid if possible.

Shouldn't have to re-aim. They never go back in the same spot but close enough that re-aiming shouldn't be needed.

Just mark any bolts that may affect the alignment. I remove my headlights in about 5 minutes. They go back in and the alignment rarely needs tweaking.
