    ECS Ultimate Shift Kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am curious in purchasing a heavy weight shift kit. I cant stand the stock shifter anymore.. it literally sucks!

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-or-b...009198ecs01kt/

I like the way this one looks, especially with the red which would fit nicely for an s-line model. My other option is JHM but I am not a fan of the knob. Does anyone have this and maybe can give a review of their experience with it?

If you're just looking to change the shift knob itself, not the entire assembly/linkage, you can save yourself some significant money and just get a BFI knob alone or a SportShifters knob. There are a few other options out there too.

If you're looking to switch out the entire shifter linkage, you'll want to get either the ECS short throw or the JHM package (you can get both of these without/separate from the knobs both companies make). I haven't heard anything really about the ECS kit (it's fairly new) but I know people are big fans of the JHM kit.

I definitely want the kit for sure (listed the link above). I just figured getting the package would be easier. I just wanted to see what the differences are between these two (JHM/ECS) packages. Maybe it isn't worth spending the extra money on JHM and ordering the knob separate.

I just find it to light! I always find my self not making it into gears esp 5th and its really aggravating at times. Also, I am too lazy to put that much effort into shifting every time lol

For sure just wanted to make sure . I had a couple BFI knobs and really enjoyed them. I've been considering replacing the shifter linkage as well because I also severely dislike the stock feel haha, so would be curious if someone pitches in with experience with the ECS kit!

We posted a thread about this but it didn't get much traction. Which is surprising..

The stock shifter is plastic and has slop when shifting. I have the JHM shifter which is solid metal construction and improves the feel of shifting. I used to grind 3rd occasionally with the stick shifter and with the solid shifter, I have rarely missed a gear. The solid / weighted knob adds to a more balanced feel. I love my magma red BFI shifter.

ECS unit looks great and a nice deal for both shifter and knob. Wasnt around when I upgraded mine to JHM.

Do you have just the short shift unit from JHM or the trio?

Just the solid short shifter. I have thought about getting the trio at some point though.

Gotta sort out the oil pressure woes first, on the list though.

Ahh okay I could see that, I definitely am pushing it into gears, after the first week of driving (and changing the gear oil) I haven't grinded a gear since or really had any issues, but you definitely do have to get it in there lol

But I also pause at the gate and let the synchro line up and it almost sucks itself in. The issue I have with those kits and when people say they have to shove it in I feel like that wears the synchros faster considering your making them catch up faster, kinda like dropping the clutch all the time instead of easing into it *shrug* since I started letting the synchros, well, synchronize, at their own speed I haven't had much trouble getting it into gears. I guess I'm just not in a rush to go anywhere haha. I don't wanna get outta the car

Any way to reduce clutch throw though? That's definitely something I would invest into! After driving my bosses mustang with only like 6 inches of clutch travel I was dropping my clutch halfway through thinking I was already out lol

I have the ECS short shifter and its FANTASTIC! No complaints. I do still have my stock knob and am looking at getting the BFI knob ECS has. I have a 08 Ti package with black and red stitching in the wheel already so it would go nicely.

My problem is I'm always in a rush to get somewhere lol. Anyhting to speed up the process would be great! as for clutch throw, I don't think there is anyway besides a new clutch?

I have the short shifter with stock knob also. It is pretty sweet, throws are reduced and everything is smooth. Definitely better than stock and the price is good. I just slapped it in and it didn't really take much to adjust which I was worried about from reading stories on here.

The ECS kit is also height-adjustable, whereas JHM's is not, I believe

So if you have a shorter stem it will look like the throw is shorter correct? Not sure how each are measuring

Yeah it would make the throw slightly shorter I suppose. I wonder if ECS factors that into their throw reduction percentage, or if that's truly additional.

Never tried either but I like how the ECS looks more refined and finished, which doesn't matter at the end of the day because it'll be covered by the shift boot. Doubt we'll find anyone who has tried both to compare and comment on their functionality.

    Ha good answer

I don't think changing clutch will change it, sadly I think there is no way to make it shorter

    I could be wrong though
