    Consensus on wheel quality?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking to spend 1500$ on either a set of 18s or 19s. I live in Michigan and am worried that a cast 19 won't hold up. Any thoughts? I'm pretty open minded when it comes to wheels. No chrome and no whacky colors. Black or gunmetal preferably. Looking for toughness not weight btw!

Used OEM's? That being said I run 18" C5 A6 wheels on my B6 in the winter here in eastern Canada and the last time I mounted tires they found bends in 3 wheels on the balancer.

I have OEM alloys (18") that get wrecked here in Baltimore. I've had 3 bends in a year. They're easier to find a single replacement for, most of the time.

Still looking for a set of used local rotors.

Ok I figured the roads here are the worst I'm gonna stick with 18s there are pot holes 4-6inches deep everywhere I swerve most but munching some is inevitable. Any good 18 options that look nice? With good durability

Hartmann are likely the best quality cast OE replica wheels. They run about $1200 a set. Or you could find some used OEM wheels in the classifieds and have them refinished black or gunmetal if that is your desired color.

Keep swerving...even the best quality forged wheel can be destroyed by a pothole.

Plus I'd imagine it to handle better on 18s. Track cars never have super low profile tires not that I plan on tracking the 2.0t haha maybe one day at Waterford

Run a taller tire, might help a bit. Try some rotiform cast and check them out. I've ran also Concept Ones/Klutch, no cracks. Then again, I'm in GA riding on low pro's.

I run 225/45 winters on oem Allroad et38 rims. Not the lightest wheel but has taken two hard winters of slush and holed pavement with hardly a mark on them.

Should mention it was 1500$ on the wheels without tires if that expands anything

I am sure that I will get bashed for saying this but I have put my Alzer's (ECS Brand Wheels) through some abuse with no bends. We do not get a bunch of winter weather where I am but the roads are crap and its impossible to miss all the crappy pot holes & construction demolition. At 400-600 a set its worth the risk IMO.

I was almost considering going with rotiform blq in a black 18. Black wheels are harder to judge size imo! I'm afraid to go too cheap I owned tsws in the past and they were garbage. Bent all 4 when I'm king of swerving pot holes. Don't even know what I hit to bend 3of the 4.

Buy used S5 wheels locally. They're usually $900-1200 with tires, depending on the tread life left. The best spec ones are 19x9 et33. Be patient for one to come up for sale.

That may be an option as well. Unfortunately in my area a lot of people are in stock cars. Don't get me wrong there are modded everything's in Michigan, however most of the audis I see are totally stock.

I'm in Texas where people drive trucks unless you're in the heart of a major city. An Audi in any form is rare. Stuff will still come up for sale. That's why I ended with saying to be patient. A lot of car guys don't know how to do that when it comes to modding.

It's just rough in Michigan half the guys selling wheels are selling them bent or straightened. Some of our roads look like the surface of the moon haha!!!! I'd probably have to get s5 wheels shipped but I'm on x-ice winter tires and with the mild winter I need wheels within the next couple of weeks!

I live in Illinois....the only place that has worse roads ....is the surface of the moon.....Ok maybe Wisconsin too
I have VMR wheels and love them....I only use them in the summer. I change back to stock wheel and tire package in the winter.

I live in michigan as well and i run 3 piece 20x10's with a 255/30 tire and am perfectly fine. cast wheels would definitely hold up to michigan roads as long as your paying attention to the road.
