Does the AWE Touring Edition for RS5 Drone?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wondering if any of you have AWE's Touring system in the RS5 and if your happy with it? Is there any Drone noise at all? Especially on the highway in Drive mode? I spend a lot Of time on the highway and hate Drone.

If you hate drone then you really need to go for a valved exhaust like the standard system, any open system is going to hit a spot where it drones.

Have you heard the AWE Touring? Supposedly is quieter then stock.

I know it isn't exactly the same, but I have the AWE track edition on my V8 S5 and drive 80 miles on the highway every day....and love it.

Drone is a factor of speed and gearing, so it is really hard to say, but I'm usually cruising at 80 mph and have no issues. I mostly notice drone in the 2,000 RPM range and at lower speeds like 35-40 mph (which I never hold for long anyway).

But when cruising...not an issue IMHO...

...and for that reason, get the track exhaust...you won't regret it...you want to hear that beutiful noise as much as possible.

Thanks for the insight but I would love to hear from someone who is actually running the Touring Edition on the RS5. Just don't want to do this and find out I still have drone.

every exhaust drones .. i have a stock exhaust on a v6 S5 and if i turn the radio off and hit the 2000 rpm spot on the highway you will hear a slight drone..

exhaust sounds.. drone.. deep.. too loud.. too quiet is something you have to hear for yourself.. best thing you can do is find someone with the setup you like and ride in their car.. if its one thing i've learned on this forum is everyone has their opinion of what the same exhaust sounds like and it varies from one end of the spectrum to the next.. for example i think the Amytrix Exhaust for the S4 sounds like a civic with a fart can.. but i've heard anything from its perfect to it sounds like an exotic

That's why the RS runs a valved exhaust, there is zero done at any rpm. At low rpm it's using a valve to close off the free flowing exhaust and uses a resonator to cancel out any resonant frequencies; this comes at the expense of HP, a resonated exhaust will lose you power at higher rpm, hence the valve that opens up to allow free flowing gas.

A straight through exhaust will have a resonant frequency where it booms at a particular rpm, you can't avoid that. If the Awe isn't valved and doesn't resonate then it's probably dropping some power somewhere.

Thought we had a exhaust actuator? So your exhaust sound is actually from the speakers. It's kinda like the i8.

sound comes from the speakers when you are above a certain throttle percentage .. you won't hear the fake nose if you are crusing at 2000 rpms on the highway

Does the AWE Touring Edition for RS5 Drone?

Yo. I had the AWE track and it was starting to annoy me on the highway. I put the touring DPs on hoping it would be deeper but it's just quieter. Nice character and much better on the highway but it still just wasn't for me so I switched to capristo. No drone as I recall. I've got the touring DPs sitting around collecting dust. If it weren't a ball ache I'd send them to you for free. Let me know if you're ever up in Canada - or anyone else that wants them. I'll take a beer for them.

Thanks for letting me know. So as far as you remember it wasn't annoying on the highway like the Track? Meaning no drone. Is the Carpriato quieter then the Track in sport mode or louder? I've been thinking about changing the entire system like you did.

I also see you asked for input on that thread and I didn't respond. The touring DPs will definitely quiet things down but then why not just go back to stock.

You can think about it but if you really want my resonated DPs they're yours.

Great write up. Makes me want the Capristo:) I was almost ready to do it last week and I am just having a hard time pulling the trigger without hearing it in person for that much money. So I started looking at the Touring. But from what I'm reading and hearing it still has some noise at higher speeds. Seems like Capristo is the only solution.

I was told from AWE that with the stock downpipes there will still be drone. They suggested the Touring pipes to hopefully completely get rid of it. How do I get your downpipes. I feel like it's worth a shot if it doesn't cost me a lot. Starts to get to the point where if I keep sinking money into it that I should have just gone with the Capristo.

Sound doesn't sound very different with valves open and closed in that video. Also no good posts on it on whether there is drone or not on highway in comfort mode. Capristo continues to get rave reviews.

If I can just change my system to Touring and have no drone it's a win for me but nobody seems to know.
