Anyone have an idea how to fit these wheels? Won't clear my front brakes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought these wheels locally from a shop and they don't clear my front stock brakes. The entire thing has been a pita. I bought new tires and 1 inch spacers for the wheels and then I had to buy extended lugs. The shop doesn't accept returns. I am no car genius myself but I know that some of you here are so if you were me, what would you do to fit them? They wheels are 18x8.5 235/40/18I have 25mm or 1 inch spacers and extended lugs. I am in contact with someone who can roll my fenders if I need it.

Eff it. I might just sell these the wheels keep the tires before I have someone roll my fenders and completely destroy my fenders because the car feels compromised afterwards. These wheels were cheap anyways. I don't need anything fancy. I'm not trying to pretend my car is something it's not. It's not bad for what it is but that's it.

Do you happen to know the offset of the new wheels?

Looks like they sold you a high offset set, under the guise that "if it is 5x112, it'll fit all VW/Audi".
    They should know better.

    A 1" spacer is a monster...

Oh hang on....it is you again.....I'd recommend rolling your fenders as much as possible, then going with wheels that actually sit 2" within the arch.
    This gets scene points.

Yea as stated you need to know the offsets of the wheel. That is essentially where the mounting face of the wheel sits in relation to the center of the wheels (center being 4.25 inch deep from the lip of the wheel)

I wouldn't do more than a 25mm spacer that would be insane. Your best bet is to sell them and get the proper sizes. Next time, if you don't know what you are doing, buy the wheels from them and ask them for their help. Have them do install or whatever so they are responsible for the fit.

Buy B7 A4 calipers and pads and ditch the HP2, much better wheel fitment and you can use your stock rotor, should be able to pick up some used calipers for pretty cheap. The only wheels I can't fit behind mine are the 16" A4 5spoke sport wheels unless I have a 5mm spacer.

18x8.5 et35 should clear the front brakes with no issues unless it's a weird spoke design. At most you'd need a 10mm spacer, probably would clear with a 5mm spacer. 1" is too damn big.

this is typically correct. there are 2 things that need to be considered outside of offset and wheel width and tire selection: first, the spoke shape (or x-factor). second, the barrel shape. Some spoke designs and barrel shapes cause contact on the caliper. wheel spacer sufficiently large and fender rolling will solve the spoke issue. Barrel shape may not be able to be resolved unless it just so happens that the shape of the barrel allows greater clearance at a different offset.

you gotta measure what's contacting, add at least 1mm for flex (keep in mind new pads will move the caliper out as well). If it's the barrel, you're probably hosed.

this is super simple stuff than any knucklehead in the industry should well know. And if you were sold these by a wheel shop that told you they would fit, you 100% have a claim in small claims court regardless of their policy.

I know it sounds dumb but if the fit is a little tight you can grind the caliper just a bit on the inside edge and it could clear, I know this because I had to do it
