Is there info out there on the new throttle body and pipes apr is about to release?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was on the phone with JHM yesterday and asked them to give me a heads up about any new products coming for this platform and he spoke of this new system and tune that apr will have out in the next week or so. When I search I don't find any info. Anyone have a link? Thanks

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not (and I don't mean any disrespect by that) but it's the "ultracharger kit". Overdrive crank pulley, boost noodle throttle body/adapter, software to support it all.

Check the apt teaser thread in chatterbox for absolutely no information but a plethora of steak, dogs, and shade being thrown, amongst a few teaser shots of the rumored creature.

Yea I was afraid it was that thread. So other then all the BS on there is there any real info on the kit? Dru from JHM said he was just down there to check it out and said it would be out this week.

Most credible post for the ultracharger to date. I'm a bit surprised.

    LMFAO. Epic.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Most likely it will be released once the APR international dealers conference has concluded. The domestic conference concluded on Sunday, the international is taking place right now.

We were able to get our first hands-on look at this kit over the weekend. It's a really stout upgrade that will have been worth the wait. Like APR mentioned in their FB post, official release is oh so painfully close.

Don't quote me on this as I am not positive but I believe it is an 80mm TB vs the 70mm stock one.

Should give you better throttle response and maybe 5-10 whp?

It is indeed an 80mm throttle body. I will let APR explain exactly why they opted for a larger throttle body, but I can say that it is the lynch pin for making this upgrade work as it does.

Did they share any numbers or is there an NDA?

Doubtful that the larger throttle-body would add 10whp. Porting the stock one has shown minimal gains. Same with porting the stock blower.

Now, smoothing the transition between the throttle body and the rotors of the blower, potentially providing less turbulent air coming in, that could probably pick up a few (could potentially drop IATs by a few degrees).

Neither the turbulent air nor the volume on the atmospheric side of the blower have ever really been a constraint. Looking at logs proves that.

It's always been IATs. Always will be until someone does something significantly different.

Summed up, $2k+ in additional hardware for a possible 10whp over a standard DP setup = not worth all the hype.

Hopefully, I'm wrong. Unfortunately, nearly a decade of professional experience in the industry, trap speeds of the test mules, and general gut feeling on APR states otherwise.

Exactly, can't imagine this will be worth the wait for people who could have gone with DP GIAC, EPL, etc. I could see it gaining low and mid-range TQ due to boost buildup a little faster. Porting doesn't add the type of mm increase like going from 70 to 80mm TB.

Plus, Issam is working on variants from 75mm to 82mm range. So anyone running GIAC, EPL, etc will be able to throw on an 82mm in some time anyways. Only difference would be the 'boost noodle,' so we'll see what APR claims that can do.

I heard it would be good to 500hp, not sure if whp or crank. And I was told it has to do with the TB, and the stage 2 pully will stay the same.

I totally lost it with this one! They'll be asking me what the laughter outburst was from my office next time I walk down the hall. Summed up in one picture, the only thing that could improve it would have been a side of boost noodles in a bowl and a giant pitcher of APR cool-ade...

There is this in the works from iABED...probably with EPL support. I'm sure EPL will support al a cart options with e85 and duel pully configurations.

What would be the guess on the ultra charger kit from APR. My guess...$1999 for existing stage 2. $2999 for new customer. Bet I'm damn close.

I live all of 45min from APR HQ. I had a contact tell me about this a few weeks ago and did some more digging around. There are a few guys that work for APR in the Opelika area that have gotten test drives in the test platform car and have said its the quickest B8 they've been in.

Granted, not sure how it'll compare to the DP guys, but I am genuinely excited to see this release. If anything but to further development for this platform.

Just telling what I heard. Small town rumors. We all are ready to see actual numbers, for better or worse, whatever bandwagon we are on. I was about to pull the trigger on a DP setup but figure why not see what this has to offer first?

I'm not waiting for APR's numbers. Don't care about them, they won't do shit for me. I want somebody to get it, take their car to a dyno, dyno it, add that ultracharger set up and dyno it again. It can all be done in one day. Also dyno sheets backed up by logs. If it's gonna be 15whp for that much money at least that throttle body pipe looks good

My guess it the SC inlet upgrade adds 15whp but mysteriously doesnt reduce 1/4 mile times or increase traps over other dual pulley folks who dont have it ;)

But seriously I am interested in their new heat exchanger upgrade and what it looks like. I'd like to see what had them go back to the drawing board and how it performs better than their last.

Since this is a thread about the APR ultracharger I don't mind hijacking it (but no food photos from me).

I have just got a stage 2 for my S5 and of course the difference to stock is fantastic. But I am no different from any other petrolhead in always wanting more, so am having thoughts about a charge cooler, larger pulley and even wondering if this APR kit is going to deliver on its expectations. But it does occur to me that whilst the change from stock 337bhp to 475bhp is damn obvious, would an increase to 500bhp, or even say 525bhp if that is possible, really make much of an impact in real-world driving experience for me? Or is all this stage 2+ stuff just about 1/4 mile times?

But seriously I am interested in their new heat exchanger upgrade and what it looks like. I'd like to see what had them go back to the drawing board and how it performs better than their last.

I get the impression that it's not some radically different HX with the exception of the way it's bled (self bleeding?) with some minor improvements.
