Anyone with a B8.5 Stage 1 or 2 in the Long Island New York area?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyone near me (East Northport NY, Suffolk) with a Stage 1 or 2+, on an APR or any other tune. I am thinking about going Stage 1 or 2, and would like to know a few things. If I can drive the car or get a ride would be even better.

    Thank you!

Why did you go EPL vs APR?

    It was a no-brainer really.
With APR you have to go to an authorized dealer to get flashed. If you need to have your car serviced at Audi you'll need have it flashed back to the stock file otherwise you risk getting your car TD1 flagged which will void your warrantee. But to do this with APR you have to go back to them and have them flash the oem tune back on which will cost you $$. THEN once done with Audi you have to go back and pay again to get your tune flashed back on.

With EPL you do all this yourself at your convenience with no additional cost. Plus you can re-sell it within 2 years from date of purchase. Can't do that with APR

Yes I read about all that, and some very good points! But, what do you think about the following,

If I go with Eilte, they have connections with the Audi dealers, so if there is a Warranty issue, they will make sure to help as much as possible to make sure things will go smoothly with much less chance of getting the warranty denied.

I don't know if this is true, and if I should consider this? One good thing going for us is that it seems from what I read about the B8 platform is that the reliability of these cars is one of the best Audi ever made, and it seems as this 3.0T engine has plenty of safety margin. This is unlike the 2009 STI I had were they had ring land issues, but regardless I went stage 2 at 1000miles. Had it protune and paid more for the same reasons.

What do think, am I overlooking something? It is a very expensive upgrade, and it would be nice to save money. But trying to look at the big picture.

I can do all the work myself if I need to, I did a stage 3 myself on 2000 SAAB Aero I had, DP, full exhaust and a ECU swap. But when under warranty on such an expensive car, it is scary!

I may be a bit biased as I went with the APR tune. However the primary reason why most people do is because of the reliability and experience of APR vs the smaller competitors. As other posters have mentioned the in ability to not program switch is a pain in the arse. But aside from that you never have to worry about your cars engine life with APR.

Just about all the Audi dealers in our area are mod friendly. Just have to be upfront with them. PM me for even better details.

While Elite may have contacts they cannot guarantee it. Just takes one time and your car is flagged TD1. And they will charge you $150 to flash it back to stock and then another $150 to have the tune flashed back on. Was there when a VW owner with an APR tune was going to bring his car into the dealer for service work. Told him about ELP and said he was going to look into it cause this was costing him everytime.

From what I heard, Huntington Audi and Atlantic Audi are mod friendly, and smithtown is not. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but better to be safe than sorry. I don't think any shop is going to be able to help you out with warranty issues at a dealer if you're tuned. Even if they flash you back to stock, the dealer can still tell if they dig deep enough. Gotta pay to play.

Wow, that's borderline robbery right there. I've heard of dealers charging for 1/2 of labor for a flash, but never that much. My APR dealer doesn't charge me for re-flashes. If that's true, definitely go with EPL or find another dealer.

Yes, this is more reasonable I agree! This is one of the big reasons I am still torn between the two. Otherwise initial cost is allmost the same

$150 each time you need a re-flash is ridiculous. If that's the case, I would look elsewhere.
