Installing the bc racing cool overs. Do I need to take this rubber and metal thing off the top of the suspension (the thing that the control arms are bolted to)

    Cheers

My ST kept needed them but they did not come with the top mount/hat. It looks like yours may replace that mount/bump stop seat. Let me know. I may consider those on my next S4.

yeah, otherwise it doesn't sit right. the top of the coilover is just slightly smaller than the metal bit of that top mount.

BC says you can do either.
"The Rear Top Configuration is pressed-in rubber or the OEM Rear Top Configuration assembly is reused."
from their website. I assume you can take the top mount off of the coilover and use the original strut bushing or just take the original strut bushing out and throw the BC coilover top on there.

Let us know what your experience is with these coilovers! I'm curious to know. I like the idea of affordable dampening adjustable coilovers

BC racing coil over install help

The problem is with taking the top mount off the coilover a is that the little adjustment dial disappears up into the original bushing. You can see the little dial and access hole in the pic. But the diameter of the bc mount is slightly too small and just sits awkwardly on the metal inner of the oem bushing. :(
