    Help! Exhaust rattle

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm new to Audi and started with the 2013 A6 3.0T. Got about 75k miles on it. On my 3hr drive home from buying it. I noticed that, when I'm slowing down, I hear a little rattle under driver seat. Seller (dealership) agreed to pay for fix at a Local Audi dealer. Local dealer diagnosed issue as rusted clamps. Selling dealer pays. A couple days later the noise returns. I assume it's failing clamps and don't want to take off work again to go in. A month later I go back and the local dealer hands me a bill for $1440!!! They tell me that when they put car on a lift, they could hear internal rattle of exhaust at certain RPM. Said that have to replace those pipes (part # 4G0-254-352-F and 4G0-254-300-P). My questions ...

Are there really no fixes for this?
Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it?
Would an aftermarket exhaust be a better option for that type of money?
Does said aftermarket offer improved gas mileage? (I commute 180mi a day!!)

    Thanks for your help!!!

I'm not following the sequence of events, etc.. Having said that, I would definitely take the car elsewhere to diagnose the rattle before spending any money on any "internal rattle" that requires new pipes.
In most cases, an underside or exhaust rattle is fixed without changing any exhaust parts. Good luck

It's difficult to diagnose without hearing the actual noise.

The part numbers you quoted don't come up on EKTA. What was replaced, the catalytic converters?

Most aftermarket exhaust systems are "cat-back" so would not have solved the problem.
