Just picked up a B8 A4 for the wife only came with one key.. first item on the agenda is getting a second. Plan is to get an oem ebay fob and reprogram myself with vagcom.. would this method work with the keyless entry? Also did a quick search but couldn't seem to find a vagcom diy for key programing.. could anyone point me towards one please and thank you.

The B8 / B8.5 key fobs use immobilizer v5.0; which means an used eBay key is garbage - no matter what the seller tells you.
You will have to go to an Audi dealer, provide the VIN and they will provide you with an additional key and program it to the vehicle.

    This^^
And while you're at it, you may want to get an emergency key and adapter programmed. It's a thin plastic key with a chip that you keep in a wallet/purse. It will open the door and fit into an adapter which allows it to start the car. There is a holder for the adapter on the side of the glovebox.

Getting a new A4 key is expensive, but being stuck somewhere with no ride is worse!

I ordered a new key+fob a few weeks ago at my local Audi dealership. I believe it was $205 for the fob, $70 for the key, and $70 for programming.
