    Upgraded Cooling with Stage 2

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is upgrading the cooling necessary for Stage 2 if you are not tracking the car, but just doing some spirited driving every so often?

How many have gone to the trouble? If so, what did you go with?

TL;DR, no Stage II is fine without upgraded cooling.

Then why doesn't everyone just do Stage 2? *Keep in mind, I am still stock.

Alot of people do but some dont want any aftermarket parts on their cars so they want to keep the OEM pulley on there. Some may have a budget they dont want to exceed. Who knows. You can do stage 2 on stock cooling. Upgraded cooling just makes it better and you can recover a bit of lost hp.

I want to read that thread, but it's way too long too really get into it. Mostly talks about dual pulley. For a single pulley, upgraded cooling isn't required? What risks do we take besides heat soak with regards to engine health?

not much. I was stage 2 for a year and a half before upgrading the intercooler. When I logged, you could just see the IAT temp going up.. which impacted the timing and therefore after a while you lose a little bit of power at the top end. Now it stays steady at a lower temp. It is not going to ruin your engine right away if thats what you're worried about, if ever, because the engine wouldnt let a temperature too high happen, you will lose some power before.

FWIW, if you look at the AWE marketing data, the complete cold front system provided roughly a 10 hp delta after 8 back to back dyno runs on their stage 2 car. Dunno if that's worth almost 2k.

I honestly think all of the companies dyno runs do them a disservice with respect to cooler upgrages. They cant simulate 90mph airflow. I think they perform better real world

Agreed which is why I'm running one, but only paid 449 on Apr black Friday deal. If everyone dropped their price to $500 or less for an hx, all companies would be selling a sh*t ton.

It's by no means necessary, but I noticed a significant difference in IATs with it when I was stage 2. I'd say it's much more beneficial to those of us in hotter climates. It greatly reduced heat soak during the summer for me. Since you are in Nevada you would be if it from a CPS system. Log your IATs when it's cold and then again when it's hot. The comparison between the two should give you a definitive answer.

So is it an upgraded intercooler I need or heat exchanger?

I don't want to sound flippant to the OP, but isn't it best to find out for yourself? I have just had a stage 2 without cooling mods and now I'll see over the summer if my driving style results in any overheating.

Of course I understand that if you live in a hot place then you might decide to go ahead with extra cooling anyway. How hot does Las Vegas get - isn't is a place you guys built in the middle of a desert?
