    Are all B6 automatics CVTs?

Are all B6 automatics equipped with CVT transmissions? Or am I right in thinking, only non-quattro autos got CVTs. My old B6 non-quattro was a CVT but im thinking of going and getting another one, quattro this time, and would like to avoid it. Ones I have been looking at have been automatics...manual preferred of course.

    Thanks for the insight...

    You're correct.

Non-manual FWD cars were CVT, with tiptronic being reserved for Quattro.

Well yeah...as safe as a ZF Tiptronic could ever be, I suppose. Manual would always be my preferred choice.

I'm planning on a manual swap later on if I'm able. Just didn't want to suffer through the CVT if I didn't have to.

I've read many threads on this issue, and my conclusion is the amount of problems one has with the CVT is inversely proportional to the amount of patience and mechanical/electrical ability the owner has. That and don't mod an engine with a CVT bolted to it.

    Tiptronic quattro.
But a FWD one. I think some Euro models might've had it, not sure if it includes B6 or if so, which ones. Maybe a FWD TDI auto.

Same thing. Fluid, torque converter, etc.

but notice the output shafts to drive wheels, are only left and right on it. There's nothing on the back like Torsen to send power rearward (ie quattro), it's just capped off.

It's a big undertaking that you may not find worth your time in hindsight, considering that Audi already did this very thing for you, on their time and money, with factory assembly workers.
And no dealing with a leftover dangling auto transmission harness unplugged, since it was never put in the first place.
Maybe it's a learning experience, but how many people do it many times without reluctance? or 2.7T-swaps
even any wrenching like little stuff or what's necessary, like tending to CV joints.

Suspension codes also vary but I don't know if it goes as far as manual vs. otherwise, or even 5MT (light, small, 01A) vs 6MT (such as 02X which is big and heavy). You can definitely feel the difference in the car.

For example, they're not gonna put the same front springs on an S4, as 1.8T, because S4 has a big heavy V8.

And, there have been some manual avant finds not long ago. Just saying.

Chemmie seems to be the deepest into CVT's

I have seen a B7 one with many miles, but maybe it was driven as a CVT was supposed to be driven: in D.
Instead of heating it up in a false "tiptronic" mode.

Lol! I'll admit my car rarely sees over 3k rpm.
