Has anyone had experience painting calipers while still attached to the lines? You guys use spray or some sort of enamel with a brush? If so what brand?
Super easy to do on the car.
1.) let the car sit overnight to cool
2.) remove wheel (obviously)
3.) spray brake cleaner
4.) scrub off brake cleaner with a wire brush
5.) repeat 3 and 4 several times until clean
6.) mask off: a plastic bag should cover the rotor, use tape for finished edges, use masking paper for the rest including the wheel well lining and fender
7.) spray many coats until you get an almost smooth finish
The caliper is slightly textured so it won't get perfectly smooth like the paint on the body, but the more coats you lay down the better it'll look and the easier it is to keep clean. When I painted them on my previous car I could just reach through the wheel and wipe the brake dust off with a microfiber rag effortlessly in one pass.
I THINK I used VHT caliper paint on my previous car, but it was a few years ago so I wouldn't swear to it. Probably 5-6 coats of base, no clear coat. Came out great and took maybe 2-3 hours with the stock jack. It's WAY faster with a floor jack.
Haven't bothered to do the B8.5 yet because I frankly don't know what color I'd choose for a red car with black wheels and silver trim lol.
