Age and reason for modding Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all Audiziners,

As I get a little older, I have started to realize that I'm almost the only one left in my group of close friends that still enjoys modding my car. So I wanted to start this thread to see how old most of us are and the reason behind modding our cars.... I'll give it a start

    Age: 30
Reason: I enjoy moding my car since it helps me work on my patience and I tend to work more on my car when I'm having a hard time. It helps me regain my mental strength in a sense. I also do it so that my car doesn't look like every other car on the road.

I'm 39, and I enjoy modding because horsepower is addictive, and I like making things function better. I'm an engineer at heart, so anytime I notice something that can be improved upon, I do it (within reason). And I really, really enjoy driving a car at it's limits. When that gets boring, you have to expand the limits.

38, why the hell not?! I've been around cars my whole life so it's a rare occasion that anything with wheels that I own is left stock.
03 Avant 3.slow, H&R sways, custom 2.5" exhaust, RNS-e, Airlift with v2, Rotiform ccv 19x10 square set up, Recaros and S4 paddle shift wheel cause I'm old and my knees hurt :)

    I am 26
I enjoy modding/doing my own work on my car just for a sense of accomplishment. The list of thing I'd like to do is endless, unfortunately my wallet is not bottomless!
Many people look at me clueless when i talk about what i invision for my ride.

As you age life gets busy, family and whatnot, but i do not forsee my enjoyment with working on my vehicles going away any time soon!

He was poking fun that the title says "moding" not "modding".

Anyway, I'm 32, and I mod either because the car has something wrong and an aftermarket/oem+ fix is better, the power is anemic from the factory, or for aesthetics.

Im 34, I think?, and modify my cars because I enjoy the work. I like turning wrenches.

BOV was probably the best bang for the buck for me though. That "Pshhhhhh" sound is awesome!!!!!

Only mods (moderators) can do that. It's ok. I was just poking fun but knew what you meant.

I'm 30. I wrench on my own car. The extent of my modding is upgrading OEM parts as they wear out. That being said I've only ever had old cars that are constantly wearing out parts, so I end up "modding" regularly. I've also been into cars my entire life, so it's in my nature to want to make my car better/faster/money pit-ier

I don't mod because I'm currently in posession of a small human ankle biter who is draining my bank account as fast as it can be replenished. So for the time being its stictly maintenance. Well the ankle biter is also joined by a nasty oil consumption issue (damn 2.0t problems) that will likely require a re-ring and possibly a rebuild (rods to handle all the powah).

In the unlikely event that financial drain diminishes in the near future I will mod because I like driving something a bit unique/different. And I like making things better than they were when they rolled off the factory line. I'm very OEM+ though, and I don't generally like exterior mods. Sleepers ftw.

At the moment my b7 is stage 0 but I have plans. Oh I have plans. If only that money tree in my backyard would begin producing fruit...

    Edit: Also I'm 33.

I'm 37, just got my 3.0t A6 and use to drive a modded g35. I'm going to mod this one because that's what I love to do and have been doing since I was 17 on my hondas. I like a little more noise, more power, better looks, not necessarily in that order but so there it is.

Guilty as charged. I have always enjoyed making modifications to whatever I drive to make it a bit more pleasurable. A little better handling, a little better braking, a bit more power. Basically personalizing whatever I drive.

I'm 33 now. Hard to believe I've been in this car for almost 11 years now! This Audi was actually my move away from modding way back then. At the time I had a track car, mk2 gti, and was daily driving an mk4 gti. I had an obsession and I tried to cure it.

Well, it lasted a decade and now I'm finally upgrading things on this B6. I was just always drawn to cars and racing growing up. I would watch Formula One in the 80's and still do. Then when I was a teenager I got into endurance racing, touring car and GT, and just fell in love with the sport. The engineering, the strategy, the skill of driving. Modding or not, I just love to drive and love cars. Now I've got a six month old son and just envision driving some fun car together down the line!

34 over here, it's just an addiction. I like a little extra go fast and to change the styling slightly. Never anything too crazy or extreme. I'm on car number 32 right now and the last few cars I've bought I've told all my friends "I'm gonna leave this one stock, seriously this time". Hardly ever works out that way hahaa

I'm 29...soon to be 30 in about 4-5 weeks. I mod because it's addicting, and I love seeing how my car has progressed throughout the 4 years I've had it.

I have a JHM stage 1 tune, and my 5 year old daughter is constantly saying "Daddy I want you to go fast!"...so I oblige! I also like doing the "Paul Walker" stare thing at my wife when she is in the car.

Also 34, and agree with your statements. I'm feeling less and less inclined to mod, but still enjoy doing it and learning as I go.

33 years old. Was into modifying cars long ago but took a break for a few years. Moved to NC and figured working on a build was more fun than trying to make friends. Also, horsepower is addictive.

42 Because the car is worth it. Totally biased but, the B6 design is timeless; sporty but not gimmicky.

Because it's like a badge of honor. In a time when even cars are "disposable", I'm proud to say I can fix it.

And because, even though I'm now able to do a lot on my own (thanks to the Audizine community), I still usually work on the car with my dad. We get to share stories, drink some beers, have some carne asada, and at the end the car rides another day.

    37 here.

I'm slowly getting into modding myself, mostly out of necessity, since my local dealer is in Oakland and 034 is like more than an hour away. When I lived in Seattle, the dealer was on the way home and I usually got a Q3 loaner. The potential of the 1.8 is what is motivating me.

The turbo spooling 30 psi was music to my ears
Getting thrown back in seat 0-60 in 4seconds, 1.6 sec - 60ft times, awd burn out, drifting! I love it all! So much fun! The turbo whistle, the BOV!

    Good thread btw!

    25 and a half

I do it to express my creativity, and make the car more "me". Audi's, in most cases, can use a little oomph in their styling too.

My first project was a non s-line b7 A4. After four years of owning it, it's now suzuka gray, with a gloss black roof, osir CF doorblades, DTM spoiler, sline bumper, lowered on black VMR v710.

Just picked up a phantom black rs4 and so far I've purchased smoked ECS tail lights, Mcarbon valance, euro steering wheel, cupra lip, titanium rs4 wheels..Looking to add exhaust, coilovers, and whispbar/ surf rack with a CF wrap

    Best therapist/therapy money can buy.

Barely 20. I mod because it can always be better, a little faster, a little better looking etc. I can never be ok with my car. It's what I do I suppose, always tinkering with something

Soon to be 30. I do it because it is fun. I have learned so much doing it that I can't stop. I didn't know how to change a tire prior to getting my car. And now there isn't a single item I would hesitate to fix myself. I have always loved tinkering with things and making them better and knowing how things worked. It was a natural step to learn how to build and fix things on my car.
