About to purchase 20inch rims - fitment questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone!
I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing a new wheel setup for my A4 today. (20x9 et35)

My only last minute concern is...are 20s too big for an A4. (I currently have 19s and they always looked somehow small)

Any members here have 20s on their A4?
If so could you post a picture of your ride along with the wheel specs?

    Happy Friday!

Dude, are you okay? You already have sweet rims, I'd upgrade that IC since you're running that K04 and do the Q5 brake upgrade.

Check. Probably didn't find it because there is no "B8 rims thread".

If aren't too too big for S4's, they're not to big for A4's. Same body.

The Ferrada FR4 you posted pics of does not have near that concavity in the 20x9 size you are talking about. Below is a pic of the 20x9 size on the FRONT of the car... you can see it does not have near the concavity of the wider rear size.

They look kinda flat from this pic. Do you think any of these option would give it more concavity?

Yeah there's not the ideal 9.5" or 10" widths. 10.5" is fine for Allroad and A5/S5. Has it been done on an A4? Yes, but that's pushing it very aggressively on the A4/S4. Even at the highest available offset (38) you're still going to have quite a bit of poke. You'd have to run a really stretched tire size and a great deal of negative camber.

There are many other wheels that are more suited for our application and will look better IMO.

Here are some pics of 20s with a proper tire size ...

For real tho I was running 255 and I just didn't like the tiny side wall these 275s ride sooo much better and look great IMHO

    275 30 20 conti dws
I am on stasis touring suspension and these are stasis se12 20x9 et48

And no I do not rub at all. The stasis suspension rides excellent nearly just as good as the stasis ohlins I had on my B6 for a fraction of the cost.

Yep... next purchase is coilovers. And the 255/30/20s actually ride very well. (The sidewall size difference between 255/30/20s and 275/30/20s is 1/4 of an inch) Last week I had my wheels powder coated, and drove around on my stock 18's with 245/40s, and the difference in the ride between the two is very minimal. I considered 265/30s and 275/30s, but with an offset of 32, the 255/30s were the most practical. Here are a few more pics:

It's funny that is the same setup that I wanted on my B8.5 A4. I was looking for the deep concave look but I didn't want to deal with rolling fenders and then risking rubbing once I drop it. The picture you posted is 20x11.5...not even the 20x10.5 will give you that deep concave look. I ended up going with Ferrada FR2 20x9 ET35. I will post a picture once mount them.

I have a set of 20" Vossen VFS-1s on mine (B8.5) and it looks perfectly fine. Went with H&R Springs and the drop's 2" R and 1.5" up front. Go for it!

Stick to 19 inch. You can always get low profile tires 250/35 that would give it an aggresive look. But i would call any audi dealer to make sure is the best fir strut ans suspension. Good luck let me know how it goes, im.on.the same boat at the moment lol

    (My opinion)
As a few others have mentioned it OP, no doubt that the 20" would be look amazing (and it's ultimately your final decision), but 20" wheels and 30 aspect ratio tires are not the best for comfort/quiet ride. In my experience, my B8.5 S4 running replica 20" rotor style wheels with 265/30zr20 general (fronts) and Pilot Super Sports (rears) on stock suspension was an awful loud ride. Rubbing was definitely an issue with my setup on a sudden incline with any load like drive and 1 passenger in the car. I also blew a less than 8k mile old PSS going about 40 in a city street due to a left over half of a broken road reflector I rode over during lane change.

    TLDR
The 20 inch wheel on B8 looks sick but this set up is not forgiving whatsoever on anything but perfect roads.

20 inch are the perfect size, they're not too big. If you put the correct size tires the height and fender gap are still the same as you have with 19's. Remember wheels may be bigger but you have less rubber/lower profile tire.

I just got a couple weeks ago 20x10 +40et 255-30-20 all around, sits perfectly flush with the fenders.

Nice! Yes please post the pic once they are mounted

Thanks for the feedback, in fact thanks everyone for all the feedback.
Gave me lot more knowledge on which route to go.
Now the tricky part is to find a tire size beefy enough to handle the imperfect part of roads having two kids in the back seats is giving me doubts but I'll take the risk.

Does bigger size wheels means loss performance wise?

I went with the Hankook V12 Evo (I have to say, this tire holds its own!). Tire sizing is 245/35/20

I have on the solo werks coilovers and it's set to about a finger between the tire and fender. The rears only rubs when pulling into driveways and the front no longer rubs after I removed the top liner screw.

    275 30 20 conti dws
I am on stasis touring suspension and these are stasis se12 20x9 et48

And no I do not rub at all. The stasis suspension rides excellent nearly just as good as the stasis ohlins I had on my B6 for a fraction of the cost.

    Seriously?! 275's square? AWESOME!
I really want to run larger than 255 19's, have been looking around at 20's for a while, and want wider .. but didn't seem to find anyone else in a B8 A4 running them well. This looks PERFECT! Well done! So, you are a non-sline? but with lowered suspension. I've got the S-line, with sport suspension, so I believe slightly lower and more rigid that just s-line? I could be mistaken, s-line for sure though. But mine seems a little bit lower than other s-lines. So what you are running seems to be the perfect offset etc. :)

No I am on stasis suspension which is sport shocks and stasis springs and runs a tad lower than sline. Basically stasis springs are like running some eibach or h&r lowering springs.

And yes it rides perfect there's more sidewall just a tad with the 275/30 and it fills the fender wells perfectly and does not scrape or rub at all. I love it. I think it's the perfect setup for the B8. Be aware not all tires have the same width so check the width compare them to dws but I would bet all 275s fit cuz I test fit some toyos before I bought the conti dws. And with the amount of room I have left you could even run more offset just a tiny bit tho. I doubt any lower than 43.
