Upgraded my speakers and subwoofer in RS7

Just recently upgraded the Bose stereo in my RS7, it sounded so pathetically sh!tty I tore it all out. How Audi thinks it's ok to put such a terrible cheap stereo in such a nice car is beyond me, by far the worst part of there cars.

My new system consists of 2 JL Audi amps a 900/5 and a 600/4, front and rear Focal sets, the ES 165KX3 3 way set up front and the ES 165KX2 2 way set in back. I used a JL W3 for the subwoofer installed in a custom box in the rear cubbyhole and used a bit HD sound processor also added some extra sound proofing.

    Price was around 10k installed.

WOW!! It sounds soooo much better!! Honestly can't even compare how much better it is.

For anyone thinking of getting the B&O system save your money, it is better than the Bose, but still nothing compared to this set up.

I've attached some pictures of the setup. Hopefully someone finds this info useful.

Nice. I have the B&O, and frankly, I've been unimpressed. Fortunately, I'm a news junkie and spend most of my time listening to NPR. Otherwise, I'd really be disappointed. Did everything you added mate up to the original head unit?

Yeah the B&O is much better than the Bose but still WAY overpriced.

Yes everything did mate up to the original head unit and all factory sounds work as normal(nav voice, phone, parking assist)

    Cool-

What did you wind up doing with the center speaker? Did you just leave it inactive? Also, were you able to just take the fiberoptic MOST cable off the factory amp and just plug it into the Audison Bit One?

I've got a similar setup- I absolutely love the Focal speakers- I've got the KX3s up front as well, bi-amplified by the JL HD 900/5. I've got a different DSP that works well, but my center speaker and rear doors are still the stock speakers driven by the factory amp. I'm working on getting an Audison Bit DMI installed so that I won't need the factory amp.

Also, where did you get your custom box for your subwoofer made? Do you have any contact info you can provide?

I think the center channel is being used only for factory functions/sounds. I know it's not being used for music. I want to say the factory cable is being used. As for the box it's a custom made box from a company in Poland called basser, quality is higher than expected and prices are very fair.

Great- thanks. Also, what year is your RS7? I'm told that for 2016 models and higher the MOST fiberoptic system was 'upgraded' and not compatible to plug in with some of the current aftermarket pre-amplifiers like the Audison Bit One. Was your MOST cable just able to plug and play into your Bit One?

It's a 2016. I'm pretty sure the original wires were used. I'll ask when I go back up there.

The Focal set looks awesome. Also, might be one of the few mid range speakers that actually fits in the middle of the door.
I have a 2014 RS7, with B&O system, looking to replace the door speakers but keep the dash tweeters.
The mid speaker needs a max of about 1.5” to fit. Bought JL Audio C2 400x, but they’re about a half inch too tall and the door card won’t go back on. Ugh!

The focal K2/K3 systems mid range is about 1.5” depth, but can’t just buy that part of the set. Haha, any suggestions??

I have a 2015 and have been entirely underwhelmed with the system. I will start with a new amp and get some new speakers.

is the BOSE and B/O system interchangeable? I was looking at some older b/o people offering up. Might look to swap it to add little more umph for the bass

    Hi Kids,

I did a similar system in my '17 A7 Competition. I went with Focal Flax 3 way front, used C pillar for rear tweeters, JL audio VX VX/600 for front drivers and 1000/5 for rears and sub (similarly mounted). I went with the NAV/TV for integration with MMI and a knob in the compartment in front of the shifter for fader and bass level. I am very pleased with the sound. The NAV/TV and the Audison (I think) use the MOST cable and remove the crappy Bose settings. My best guess is that replacing the Bose with used B&O could turn into a time consuming nightmare.
