    Gearbox Malfunction Question.. VCDS

I know this is a pretty well covered issue on older dated forums. Bought a 2010 S4 with 86k on the clock. First got notification after a 70% throttle pull from 1-3, went away and parked it for the night. Drove next day with no issue. Came on again today cruising at 70 mph. Tried to shift through a few gears manually to see if certain ones were not engaging. Nothing from 3-7 would let me give more than about 15% throttle. Came to light and put in neutral, ended up making it to work with it happening 1 more time. I have done enough homework to know a good amount of what it COULD be. There is no CEL or info being spit out. Is there anyone in the Columbus, OH area with VCDS that could help me see codes its throwing? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!

Worth mentioning.. the last transmission flush and filter was done at 50k miles. I also have no idea whether the mechatronics unit is the original or if it has been updated either. I've had this car about 2 weeks...

Not sure if you bought it from the dealership and what state / federal laws protect you - but I would immediately go back to the dealership you bought it from. Be prepared to part ways tbh, pretty sketchy that it would immediately happen like that.

To add, the DCT in 2010 seems to be the most troublesome but over the years it's got better. There is a repair kit for the mech unit, but these are interesting issues and can't say if the 'cheap' option will fix this for you. Hate to you see you out the price of a transmission swap

I bought it from Hyundai of Bedford in Ohio.. probably not the wisest decision but the deal seemed right. I'm going to get a hold of the dealership. I know the title has been flipped already to the lender so idk what issues that may cause.

I ran the Vin and there are no open recalls for this car. I know some Volkswagen models had recalls open to 100k.. has anyone had their B8s addressed under any form of recall. I know these are vin specific but just wondering.

just return it. If when you check it say clutch overheat then its due to lining of circuit board in the transmission and needs to be replaced should be around 1200-1500 to replace. had that happen with my dsg 2012 at 70k miles thought it was clutch pack and spent 3k+ replacing and self diagnosing vs taking to Audi first time.

Talked to the GM at the Dealer. IDK if just returning the car is going to be an option.. But he did tell me to get it to my local shop and get a diag. Then would determine what he can help out with. So, we will see what they say once they look at it. My previous experience with Buyers service department hasn't been the greatest. Fingers crossed..

Let us know too - the folks here are good at saving cash on repairs from research

Yeah and I usually always research and repair everything on my own ( thanks to this forum ) because I hate paying for labor on stuff I can do my own. But in this case.. I needed to be able to have a Certified Dealer do the diag since I'm trying to get the selling dealer to step up and help pay for repairs. This forum has been a major help with plethora of issues I had with my B7 A4!

Just got a call from the Service Writer. He said they determined it was the tranny temp sensor that is causing the fault. Quoted me $1,900 taxes included to replace it. Does this sound right?

So that doesnt sound too bad with labor then. Id rather have them do it and not dick with it for an extra $800.

Make sure they change the fluid and filter as well. That is supposed to be changed every 35k miles.
