Help! Engine removal - transmission disconnect

    Hey guys,

A buddy and I are working to pull the engine from my 09 A4 and ran into an issue..

All of the harnesses, hoses and engine mounts are free, and tranny bolts have been removed. The engine and tranny and separated, so we pull in the crane, bolt the engine to the hoist and it's time to go...right? Wrong!!

We neglected to unbolt the torque converter before the giving the engine a pull.. Once we did and it lifted the tranny along with, we knew something was wrong. Double check everything and realized our error.

Now the issue is, turning the crank is not rotating the converter plate to bring the bolts to where we can take them out...as it should. There is about a 1/2 inch of separation between the block and tranny, so I think we managed to yank out the input shaft.

Dilemma is, other than turning the crank, how can we get the plate to turn so we can reach the bolts; or is there another safe way to disconnect the tranny with the bolts installed??

Beer, music and wrenching normally work out well...geez.

Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated!!!
