Main Wiring Harness - repair (out of pocket) or replace (insurance?)

    Hi,

Like all things a rat managed to chew up the insulation on a section the main electric harness on my S4 when i was away last month. Fortunately the car runs fine no signs of internal wire damage, and the but now wonder if I should be claiming insurance or just paying out of pocket for repairs.

Option 1: this is just a rewrap main harness - I'd probably pay out of pocket
Option 2: this is whole new harness :( - insurance it!

Anyone got insight here would help

Take a good look around the area and see if there is any harness damage other than the outside sheathing. If not, wrap it with some good electrical tape and call it a day. Maybe take it to a garage if you are not handy. No need to involve insurance on such a basic job. Insurance is a headache, and even if they may cover this damage under comprehensive, they may present a larger bill next year.

I would not use electrical tape on that. Its only going to unravel when it heats up.

Get some good heat shrink wrap thats made for electrical harnesses. You can trim them to the size you need and put them on yourself.
