Yes sir it is spongebobs house. Too bad spongebob got worse as it went along, shouldve cut it off after the 4th season. Also have fry from Futurama on my leg.

Yeah, the cold side came out good too. Did you use engine enamel on it?

Like a lot of other shows it did go downhill after awhile. Thankfully the episodes of Futurama after it initially got cancelled were pretty good.

I'm almost positive they got cancelled twice. But they cut it off at the right time, when it was still good. Although I wish it was still on.

Yeah I used VHT metallic engine enamel, and VHT gloss clear on all of the pieces I've painted black.

They were on Fox, got cancelled. Then they had a few hour long specials. Finally came back with normal episodes for a bit.

Are you gonna do anything with the hot side? Maybe get it ceramic coated black too?

Benders big score, I believe, was the first hour long special after cancellation. Watched the series from beginning to end at least 10 times on netflix. Girlfriend just bought me the box set she has a matching Leela on her leg too.

Thats exactly what I'm going to do. I have VHT textured black shaved valve cover, and intake mani, but I will be stripping those back down, and doing them to match everything else. Theres a guy building a crossflow for his mk2 that i came across and it made up my mind to do everything gloss black.

    Pic of said crossflow.

    Pic of said tattoos.

Turning out nice. With all the black, wouldnt it be hard to pinpoint leaks if they were to occur over time?

Yep, then Beast with a Thousand Backs was the other special, I think.

Gloss black all the things! lol. All black will definitely look good and will hide dirt better than all white or something.

    Awesome tattoos!

Leaks would attract dirt and dust which should be somewhat easy to spot.

I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. Hopefully everything is done correctly, so I should be ok *knocks on wood*. But everything should nice, and clean so a leak (if immediate) should be easy to spot. *shrug* or at least thats what I'm telling myself.

Took a break from B5 stuff to enjoy the GTI with friends since I fixed it, and will be trading for a B5S4 soon.

The cleaning up, and painting commences. Turbo is back together. Took the sway bar out to sand down and paint. And took the remaining door cards out along with the lower half of the dash. Still have to take out the rest of the sound deadening I put down when I thought I was going to run a carpet. Slow progress, but it's progress.

Said s4 I'm trading for. Taking the bags out and putting coils in. I'm a glutton for punishment so I'm planning on dailying it. Still enjoying the GTI for the time being. Took the sway bar out and painted it metallic black, after I sanded down all the rust.

Went to the pick and pull and scored a C5 A6 strut bar for $15. I have already brushed, and cleared the aluminum center, and the brackets have already been blasted, and painted gloss black.
I will be trimming, and fitting it once I put the new suspension, and subframe in.

Blasted, and painted the front sway bar bushing brackets metallic black.

And my Powerflex black series bushings came in as well. Hopefully soon I can get the complete front suspension back in the car, with new control arms, and be ready to swap the S4 drivetrain in.

Did you trim the bar already?

When I used a C5 A6 bar, I had to use the inner holes as my new outer ones. Redrilled new inners and then trimmed/cut the edges of bar to match the original chamfer.

Pretty simple. Using the c5 bar is way easier than using a b5 bar.

I did score a pair of 255/35/18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports though. Those will match the 225/40/18 Super Sports I already have. Not bad for a completely free set of tires.

Blasted the manifold yesterday because I changed my mind about the textured black I had originally painted it. Spent a little time today sanding down all the texture from casting, and filed down all the seams. Will sand by hand tonight, and get ready for the metallic black paint in the next few days.

Making like a both show&go car. Decent car choice to dive in for it. Ways have been already paved to make the goofs minimal. It just isn't cheap to do it on this platform vs say...a Subaru.

Trying to stay away from making it a show car, but I started painting things a certain color, and I'm sticking with it. I don't want it to be a complete show car, but I want it to look decent, and not just thrown together using junk parts. I'm so used to building things to look nice. that's why I chose to build this car differently...but I always find myself looking at parts, and wanting to do something different with them. The engine bay will have all metallic black parts in it. But I've chosen to have a stripped interior to go with the "go not show" aspect of the car.

I thought you were just cleaning up the interior, not stripping it. I would keep the interior as stock looking as possible. That is the route I opted for, anyways!

The interior was in disarray. Way too much money to repair all the scratched, cracked, faded, ripped, and stained components. I'm going to run an autopower roll bar, harnesses, and my brides (Until I can replace them with Recaro pole positions). I'll paint all the missed spots on the floor santorin blue to neaten it up a bit. Making custom aluminum door panels, so I dont have big holes in my doors. I want to make the car as light as I could too... Plus, I dont daily this car either. I'll be trading my gti for a b5 s4 soon, I'll keep that interior in, hah.

Plus I did this with my GTI...so going the other route is new to me...kinda refreshing to be doing something different for myself.

Make sure you get the A4 daily driveable before picking up the S4. That "non" daily can easily become one after picking up the S4. It isn't like the inline 4s you are accustomed to.

    I daily drive my a3.
    Race car a4.
Show car GTI (trading for the s4).
    Eventual project '60 bug.
The s4 has a lot of maintenence done to it, but I plan to go though it with a fine tooth comb before eventually selling the a3, and dailying the s4.

After I'm done with the really expensive, and time consuming part of this b5 build, I'll be switching focus to the bug, right now I'm helping my father with his '69 ghia. But we have to pull the 2100cc out of my moms '79 super beetle to put in the ghia, which will be replaced with a 1641cc for my mom since she "hates that race car motor".

I wish that was my house, thats the latest picture i took of the a3 at my friends sisters house near the bike path we went riding on. It is a really nice house though. I plan on moving to washington state within the next three years hopefully when the girlfriend moves back from cali for her job, and when I finish the b5, and my fathers ghia.
Finishing the ghia is high on my priority list..It's not everyday you get to build one of your fathers favorite cars with him.

Not too much work went into this, and I still have to polish it once the paint dries fully, but the outcome is better than just using wrinkle black. It'll tie in with everything else in the bay. Valve cover is next.

Did some cutting, and drilling today to finally get that strut brace in. Looks like it's supposed to be there now. Painted the feet black, brushed, and cleared the bar.

Spent a while blasting the valve cover down yesterday, after changing my mind about the wrinkle black. Stuff is really hard to get off. Did a quick scuff, and got done painting it today. I'd say it's a hell of a difference. Can't wait to have the head done so I can paint that, and start assembly of a completely gloss metallic black long block.

Didn't know why not to ask you! I need to replace the front passenger door and already picked it up. Any tips on swapping them out (just the door skin and retaining glass and what slides out with it. just door skin being swapped out)? I can build a motor, but really think I should have a shop do it for me. Opinions?

I haven't taken my door skin off on the b5, If it's anything like the mkv it just unscrews off. When I took the door panels off, it looked like the window frame, and glass can be taken out with the motor as one whole assembly? I would imagine you could get it done fairly quickly, no way id pay a shop to do that for me...unless it needed body work (that's one thing I do not attempt to do) other than that, a couple hours time, and some beers should get it done.

Once I source a santorin blue passenger rear door skin, I'll be replacing that... so I could definitely let you know, afterwards.

Door skin as in the interior door card? Yeah, it's easy to remove on the B5. There are DIY's floating around. If you can build an engine you can do this. Basic overview is to pop out the plastic piece in the grab handle, remove a few screws hidden by it. Then there's two small screws on the top edge of the door. After that, slide the door card up. Remove wires and door pull cable.

Then the window frame and glass can be pulled as a single assembly after removing a few torx fasteners.

I think he means outer door skin. Which I've never done, but I feel like its easy enough...Especially with the experience Mitch has.
