Parking brake always first, and when foot is off the brake and car not moving, then put it in gear, P, or whatever you want.

Man, that doesn't sound good. Has it happened again? I lowered my car via VCDS 15, but haven't pushed it at all in the twisties (plan to do that next week on a long trip). Hope that doesn't happen to me, especially now that it's lowered than factory (but still very acceptable, basically where it should be from the factory). Also curious if a soft code was lodged in there, or maybe just a temporary one, catching the air tank low in pressure or something. Hope that was the case, but please let us know the details. Thanks.

Yep, I do, since exactly the same thing happened to me. I was charging my iPhone with the cable connected to one of the USB ports. For some reason, if you're not using 'Apple CarPlay', you can't use the USB port to charge it, because it messed up everything. I simply put a USB plug (make sure it's no more than 1A) on the 12V outlet next to the USB ports, and problem solved. By the way, always have Spotify at the highest volume when in BlueTooth mode, and also use the built-in equalizer in the settings menu (under Playback) to enhance the highs, and any other frequency you want. Hope this helps.
I don't have my phone connected to USB when it happens..
I'm unable to increase the volume right after I start the car..I would have to wait maybe like 5-10 min before I can up the volume..
If I play the radio though, I can adjust the volume with no issues..

That is weird. So a different issue than mine then, unfortunately. The only other thing that might work is resetting the MMI; try it. If that doesn't work, then it sounds like something more serious. But what baffles me is everything returns to normal after a while, indicating no hardware issues. Hopefully the reset will fix everything. By the way, you should state the year of your car (pre or post facelift), in case somebody else has other suggestions. Good luck.

I would only go down or mute..it happens pretty much every time I get in the car and drive off and eventually I'm able to up the volume..
Any idea why this is happening?

Also, when listening to the radio is there a way to turn it off fully instead of muting or turning the volume knob all the way down? It seems like I can only mute it and not turn it off completely because I still see the radio station displayed in the center gauge.

    Thanks.
This happens to me when I start my car up and Sirius radio is on...
All it is is your MMI booting up. Once booted up you can change the volume etc.
There is a way to turn the radio completely off, I’m just not remembering right now...

Same as Porsches; you need to hold the volume knob in for a couple of seconds. But on S6s, you can also hit the screen button on the dash, and everything turns off before the screen retracts.

I will get my A6 Avant 2018 in 2 weeks time... And i have a few things i like to customise to make it to my complete liking.

    1. Can i remove the chrome part easily without damage on the trunk lid

Also can i remove the chrome on the door knobs.

    2. The brushed steel optics inside i like to replace for carbon or black. are they easily buyable or is wrapping the best option?
Im afraid its being fragile when its wrapped (damage easily)

    3. When i remove the chrome next to the side windows (with wrapping) am i still able to car wash or should i hand wash from them on.

    4. Im thinking of either delete the chrome on the grill or maybe even place a rs6 grill or a black grill in. do i always need the entire bumper or can i just replace the grill?

    Many thanks!

    1) Chrome on the trunk lid- use a heat gun to warm it up, and then fishing line or similar to work your way under the chrome trim piece to remove it. You'll then need a solvent like isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the rest of the glue residue. This works well for removing/replacing badges as well. You can either wrap the exterior door handles, or replace them entirely.

    2) You can order OEM inserts of various types for your car online, but will be very expensive through Audi directly. You might try ECS tuning or other vendors.

    3. You should probably always had wash regardless to avoid scratching up your clear coat, unless you use a touchless car wash, which would still be fine if you wrap your trim, but some people feel the chemicals they use are too harsh.

    4. Unfortunately you must remove the front bumper to replace the grill. There is an excellent DIY here on AZ regarding this. If you get an RS grill, be prepared to use a dremel to cut out many of the locking tabs on the RS grill that don't line up with our bumpers.

For the 2014 S7, is there really only one cigarette lighter in the front under the arm rest?

WoW thanks. For The grill its only taking them Loose no need for replacing the entire bumper right.

The door handles are the same as for the lid right. They are just glued on them.

I agree with elptxjc, telling us your car's year will be helpful. Also, what MMI firmware are you on? I remember reading about general performance improvements and Bluetooth issues being resolved in later revisions I think 9XX versions. Might just need to update your firmware if yours is older.

For the grill, there are locking tabs that you can use zip ties to pry them open and pop the grill out. No need to replace the bumper.
I'm not certain about the door handles. I think you either need to wrap them or change the handles out completely to do a full chrome delete on them, but I could be wrong.

I have a 'dumb' question, to keep the thread on subject: Is it possible to use the lane-departure camera as a 'dash cam'? Just wondered that yesterday. I HATE having any of that crap on my car, but since a camera is already there, just curious if there's a module or something that permits recording to an SD card, hard-drive, etc. Thx.

no, but if you get the right camera it can be installed in a very low profile/virtually invisible location.
Mine is hiding behind the rear view mirror and hard wired through the mirror housing to the ceiling liner, down the A pillar to the fuse box. From driver seat, you can't see anything. Passenger seat can only see the side of the camera.

Blackvue if you don't mind spending, otherwise Goluk T2 is also a great low profile camera.

Also have Blackview installed front & rear, and cloud connected. Hardly visible if fitted correctly.

I've got my rear camera located at the top center of the rear window, with the cable tucked into the roof liner along the passenger side up to the front center of the car, also within the roofliner, where it then connects to the front camera, which is situated immediately adjacent to the rear-view mirror. Both cameras are unobtrusive, and it's already paid for itself after getting rear-ended while at a stop-light this past fall.

Thanks. This makes sense for the S6 with the fixed rear window. I'm curious about the S7 where the window moves with the rear hatch. I wonder if there's enough play with the wiring or whether the camera needs to be mounted to the shelf.

Rear camera can be mounted in the same location as OlyS6 described. Cable is more than plenty long. All depends how neat you want to have it installed and how much work you willing to put into installation. I run my cable under roofliner, down behind D pillar and up thru hatch hinge (inside the hinge cover). It looks as stealthy as possible but it was pretty involved and time consuming.

On the 7, it’s actually quite easy to tuck the cable up the hatch arm, behind the trim, and tuck around the window frame so it’s hidden. Cable is more than long enough, and with plenty of excess tucked down into the rear quarter, there is no interference with opening/closing the hatch.

I’ve not mounted the cam directly to the glass, as it was interfering with my digital radio (aerial is integrated into rear window heater). It’s mounted top central, but on the surrounding trim, not glass.

Does anyone have any tips on removal and install of the stop start button. I want to switch it for the red one instead. I 've looked all over google and on here and don't see any DIYs or videos explaining the process.

I replaced my switch. You pry on the base of the boot in the center of the long side to free it and lift it up. I used an old credit card. The switch goes down into the console at a angle. There's a couple of metal clips that hold it in place. Push it down, remove the connector, plug it into the new switch and replace.

There are instructions around and it's pretty simple. Look for the switch or boot replacement DIYs.

Here’s a dumb question that I can’t figure out: Whenever I start my car, the stereo presets are set to whatever band was last on, instead of the custom preset channel list that I built (that has a mix of FM and XM stations).

What this means is that upon starting my car, if I hit the next station up button on the center console or steering wheel, it will just skip up to the next station in the band and not to the saved channels.

I have to manually change it to my preset each and every time I get in my car to allow the skip button to jump to my saved channels. This really annoys me. I have a routine now: get in, hit the radio button, then hit the preset option.

Please someone tell me I’m doing it wrong lol. How do I get it to default to my preset list every time I get in?

Dumb question - When I had my M5, we were able to "code" the software in the car to release features not found in the US models such as eliminating the seat belt chime, closing windows and roof remotely, closing trunk from inside switch, etc. This had no effect on the warranty since it was already programmed within the car and as far as I know, there were no issues. Is this not possible with the S6? My primary objective is remote start which I believe is available on non US models.

Another semi-dumb question: After 4,400 miles, removed the air filter to clean it since I had to travel hundreds of miles last Thursday under the 60mph wind advisory. Tons of tumbleweeds and sand/dust 'clouds' once I got to the desert. To my surprise, found oil on the driver's side turbo tubing, since that's where the PCV dumps oil fumes (other was clean). It wasn't a lot, but a PCV shouldn't allow any liquid oil into the intake. Read about issues on older cars, but thought freaking Audi fixed it by now (2018 car). Haven't really driven the car hard at all so far; just a few WOT passes and such. Since the tubing curves down and then back up, oil puddled there, but it wasn't that much, probably a small fracion of a tea-spoon (cleaned it, by the way). The question is if that oil ingestion will cause any issues in the future, or I can just disregard it. Many thanks.

You are looking for the vcds mod list. There are a few threads around, but here's one to get you started: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=777355

These changes can be accomplished with a couple different tools, the more popular is vcds available from www.ross-tech.com

I don't believe Audi uses remote start anywhere in the world due to EU restrictions on idling and such. So because of this, the US gets the shaft...

I thought I read on here that European S6 owners all had remote start, no?

Thank you for the information. I'm not a good DIYer. Is there someone that can "code" remotely?

Not that I'm aware of. But some shops familiar with these cars may do them for you.

You should research a simpler tool called OBDeleven. It is an obd tool that connects to your phone. A lot of this is made easy by downloading apps designed to make certain coding changes for you. I'm not too familiar with it, but I think you have to pay for each app you want applied to the car. It can also be used to manually recode like the vcds tool.

Regardless, these tools are useful for checking/clearing codes, datalogging, and other troubleshooting.

Sorry, only just saw this. I believe somebody recently posted on this saying that you can. I have no idea how, as those tabs are a bear to pop out in order to get the grille out (at least they were for me). I had to take my bumper off to get to everything.
Removing the bumper actually isn't very hard, and you can do it easily enough without even removing the front wheels- you just have to turn the wheels all the way in one direction to get to the bolts on the opposite side, and then turn the wheels in the opposite direction to get to all the bolts on the other side of the bumper.

I've tried multiple different intakes on my 2016 S6, and by far the best for turbo noise is the Roc Euro. I ultimately went with a different intake that at least has some performance data to back it up, but I do miss the sound of the roc Euro. Be advised, myself and many others have had great difficulty in getting any orders filled directly through them. Others have had no issue, but you've been warned.

I did this. I bought milltek tips and put them on to fill the cutouts a little more. Because of the way the oem exhaust is designed, if I were to do it again I would’ve saved some money and purchased cheaper 3.5” tips. They fit better with the oem muffler design and I think I would’ve been happier. The install with 4” tips is a PITA and 3.5” would’ve alleviated the issue.
