There are various non OEM warmers available too. Some go in the dip stick, some stick to the oil pan, some are spliced into the radiator hose and there's a warming pad that sticks to the side of the battery.

Here is my dumb question. Why in manual mode does the car still down shift under full throttle automatically? Why does it up shift when it hits the red line? Can it be turned off? Seems ridiculous to have a DCT and not have full control of it. Might as well have a ZF automatic unit. That's the main reason I bought an S6 over an S8.

Additionally, the paddles are disappointing. It's nice they light up but they are way to small. They should have had a nice lever action with a audible click instead of a PlayStation button feel.

Are you tuned? I'm unsure of the downshift in tip mode but every audi has a peak rev limiter in the ECU. Tuning can increase the rev limit, or remove it completely with a custom tune.

No its bone stock. I understand that there is a limiter. But it should not up shift when you hit it in manual mode. It should just continually bounce off until you shift or let off.

The facelift model has slightly larger paddles, and these can be easily retrofitted to the C7 models.

Alternatively, you can add 3rd party paddle extenders if it bothers you that much.

That might be your desired reaction, but every audi i've owned (i'm up to 5 now) is the same and will up shift when the rev limit is reached.

Had my MY17 S6 for a day now...so I have lots of questions, but will ask them one at a time, and periodically.

Is it normal for the engine fan to sound like a jet plane and run for several minutes after the car is turned off?

Yes, that is normal. I can't tell you how many times I've opened my garage door to check if I left the car running because the engine fans are so loud.

If you are driving a turbocharged car hard, then shut it down without much cool down period, you will hear that fan run for a while. It's been about 8 years since my last turbo (2003 A6 2.7T) with two A8 NA V8s in between, so I had to remember to let the car cool a bit before shutting down. It's even better to do that cool down while driving, to get brakes cooled as well as other components like transmission fluid, etc.

This one is driving me crazy!!! Please bare in mind I've only had the car since*Wed.

Climate control is off. Press front defrost. Fan is set to 12...every time! How*do I change the 'default' fan speed for front defrost or is it expected to be at 12?

Goal is to get your windshield defogged as quick as possible so you can [/drive] so it's defaulted at max fan speed. You can reduce it if you want by lowering it. But will always default to the max

Where is the fuse for interior lights? I have a 2015 a7. I changed all my interior lights to LEDs and when I was plugging in the glove box bulb I heard the fuse pop. Now I cannot find the fuse. My owners manual doesn't specifically call out interior lights. I've searched for it and found conflicting views. Some say it's fuse #7 on driver side, others say it's listed as comfort module. Non of these were correct, or at least they didn't help me. To cover off again, all of interior light (dome, vanity, rear over head, and glove box) are out. I also noticed that my horn stopped working (checked the fuse for that and it's fine. Replaced anyway and still not working). Someone help me out.

Now the funny part, I used to be a highly qualified Lexus master tech. I've received degrees in general automotive maintenance, diesel industrial technology, and Lexus factory training. I haven't spent much time actually trying to figure out my fuse problem, I just figured someone here might know from experience. If I don't get help here I'll have to go grab my multi meter, ugh

Out of all the cars I've worked on, German cars are the only ones that pull this stuff. Like wtf why can't they just list interior lights in the manual

Other than this frustration I'm very happy with the new a7

Yessir, the S6/7 has 15.7" front brakes compared to the RS7's 15.4" front brakes:

Same ones on the r8. Steel brakes with cutouts to reduce weight. They also offer massive ceramic brakes. I think the latter is designed more for trackers

    2 dumb questions for today.

    Dumb question #1:
Is anyone running a 255/35 r20 tire on their S7/A7? Seems I can get much better prices on winter tires with this size rather than 265/35. What are some 20" tire sizes that people are running outside of OEM size?

    Dumb question #2:
Are license plate bolts universal? Or does anyone know the thread pattern or where I can order some shorter bolts? The license plate bolts that came on the car are too long to use without a license plate frame. I hate frames, so now my plate has room to wiggle (since the bolts won't screw in all the way) which drives me nuts, even though it's not causing any real issue or noise, I know it's there so I want to fix it. lol

How much is it sticking out? Easiest thing you can do is get some washers and place them between the plate and the mount. Or you can go to home depot and measure out the bolts on their sizing test chart.

    Btw I think they are m6 x 1.0mm.

Thanks Sanj for the idea. It's sticking out about 1/4 inch, I don't really want to stack washers on the license plate but something like this might work..

I have 275/35-20 DWS 06's on my A7. They were around $200 less than the 265/35-20 OEM size when I shopped last spring. Supply and demand I guess.

    Dumb question #2:
Are license plate bolts universal? Or does anyone know the thread pattern or where I can order some shorter bolts? The license plate bolts that came on the car are too long to use without a license plate frame. I hate frames, so now my plate has room to wiggle (since the bolts won't screw in all the way) which drives me nuts, even though it's not causing any real issue or noise, I know it's there so I want to fix it. lol
Bolts come in different sizes and materials. Get stainless hardware for plates and either shorter bolts or washers. The washers can go on the front or back and the bolts can be made shorter with a hack saw. Parts stores and eBay have thousands of them.

    That's exactly what I was looking at. 275 or 255 DWS 06.

hah yeah washers might not be the best option. I already tried 2 auto parts stores who were of no help.

I used washers and shorter screws to fit inside the round plastic screw cap/covers that come with the OEM slim line plate holder. The screw covers are pictured here.

I run 275/35/20 DWS06 all yr round. Although price diff wasn't a factor for my decision, they were cheaper than 265/35/20s this summer as well on tire rack when I was in the market. I ordered the set of 275 width tires to fit onto 10.5 inch wide niche wheels originally (which did not clear front calipers). I ended up keeping the tires for a set of 20 x 9 wheels (hartmann replicas).

30 freaking dollars for a frame? Just got a boilermaker frame and 2 black slim frames from Amazon. Normally I would vinyl wrap then in carbon fiber but this car deserves nothing less than real carbon fiber

Not to jump back to this...but has anyone installed after purchase? Are they true plug and play...meaning is the wiring under the existing sills and you just plug them in and they work? On my Infinitis when I bought the sills you just ripped out the standard ones, plugged in and replaced the news ones and viola. Easy 10 min job most of the time. I'm afraid Audi will make it difficult....lol

So with those of you running DWS06 tires.. How many miles estimated would you say you have on those tires? Is the S (snow traction) still visible?

I want to know what I can expect around how much life I can get out of these as winter tires.

Is there really not a way to read the tire pressures on each of my wheels? It's really annoying that I can't see that
