It really depends on what you’re looking for, if you want luxury/ modern but still have plenty of power keep your A6.
But if you want a small fun car to toss around the B8 is for you. But you do give up some of the luxury/ modern interior

Makes sense, sounds like we agree. My wife put me in a "buy now" mode (not intentionally, I kinda did it to myself) so I sort of impulse bought. I feel the size of my A6 everywhere. Honestly, it's not bad for what it is, but it's noticeable for a small car lover.

S4 is the way to go if you're choosing between these two cars.
S4 vs S6, there's a big difference in how they drive and handle despite them being so close in weight and size. The S4 feels a lot smaller than it is, the slightly shorter wheel base makes a noticeable difference.
Golf R is very different when it comes to AWD. The on e I test drove in the winter, I found worse than my 08 Infiniti honestly. But I test drove one in the summer and it's a hoot. I'd prefer an S4, but you get much newer for the price.
We just sold my wife's car. We were contemplating givingher the A6 to not take the massive depreciation hit, and I'd but an 11 S4 6MT. But the S4 may be sold, so we may just get her a 3 row SUV (Pathfinder) and I keep and mod the A6. I will always long the manual, but maybe a rear muffler delete can start to make me happier. The engine is great, but I hate to quite exhaust.
