I just finish swapping out my auto trans to a 5 spd. While out junking for parts I came across a nice a4 avant with a nice leather interior, the only problem it's a color that won't match my interior. My solution is to paint them and hope they last. I started with my shifter and I liked the way it turned out tomorrow I'll continue with the rear bench seat

Sorry to hijack your thread but would you mind giving some input on the manual swap? What were the specs of the car before? Was it hard? What parts did you need for the swap? Where were you able to source the parts from and around how much did it run you?

I'm interested to see how the seats turn out/hold up over time. I really want brown seats and have thought about buying a spare set to dye, but I'm worried that it'll wear off. Hopefully this holds up for you!

Headliner and other hardly touched should be fine, for seats id look into a better dye than duplicolor as those are more low grade. Friends used the duplicolor before was so so.
Id personally look for black leather seats over dyeing.

No problem man my car is a 99 a4 AEB avant with the tiptronic awd. Like every other person has said taken out the auto trans was the hardest part just cus it's so darn heavy and bulky so working around the bolts was a bit tight. I sourced the transmission from Craigslist I got a deal on it and the rest of the parts from a local you pull yard
    Transmission $80
    Rear diff $35
    Front cv axels from a spd 1.8 $18 x2
    Drive shaft $30
    Master and slave cylinder $36
    Shifter assembly $35
    Clutch kit (eBay) $50
    Pilot bearing from a v6 $15 eBay
Driver side trans mount from a v6 $18

$80 for a transmission is a steal, I paid $250 for my replacement 5-speed after my original randomly blew up...

Link to the $50 clutch kit?

Thanks I'll post some more pics as I progress in to the interior swap. I would like some black leather but my seats are manual and leather manual seats are hard to find specially in good condition. I'd look into swapping it for power seats as there are more available but the whole thing seems a bit complicated. I found these seats and the condition that they are in are flawless except the drivers back net which my dumb ass broke as I was pulling them out of the car 😂

No the rear axels fit the new diff and yes the passenger side mount is the same on both auto and manual. The drivers side on the auto will be to small and not reach the subframe and the manual on the 1.8 are a longer piece the sits to far back

Cool I just found a 2.8 1997 v6 manual as a parts car, would I be able to use most of the parts from it and find 1.8T front axles only?

So I can use the v6 front axles on my 1.8t? They'll bolt right up to the knuckle, through the bearing?
