    S3 Start Stop button

Ok this might sound like a stupid question but hopefully you guys can chime in. New to Audi so maybe I really am just overlooking something even though I have multiple cars with start/stop buttons and non of them give or have given me issues in the past.

2017 S3. Tapping the start stop button does not seem to start or stop the car 100% of the time. Car in park, foot on brake, no errors on screen(s). Car was locked, unlocked with fob in pocket....

Last night, pulled into garage, put car in park, foot was still on brake, hit button, nothing. Held button down for a few seconds, nothing. Took foot off brake, put it back on brake, hit button and it shut off.

Am I overlooking something? I don't have to hold it in right? Just tap it?

Happened once or twice when I went to start it was well.... might have been me not having foot on brake though so I am discounting that one. I have only had the car for a week now and it has done this to me at least 4 times now.....

Before I head back to dealer just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something!

Sounds like your car may have a faulty position switch for the brake pedal or shift lever. Do you notice the brake lights working when the ignition switch does not?

Good thinking. Had a brake light position sensor fail in an old car and caused issues ..... maybe something similar. This morning I made 100% sure to put the brake to the floor when I started it and stopped it on my way to work..... and had no issues. However it doesn't happen every time, so not sure that is the true fix. Just wondering if I am not pushing it down far enough to trigger things. Seems odd that I would have to pay this close attention to it and not just hop in, hit the brake and fire it up, but maybe its sensitive. I will pay attention to the brake lights and see if that leads me down the right path. Appreciate the feedback.

Well out my 8 starts and stops yesterday 3 did not work on the first try. Screwed with it last night and I think its the actual button or the key fob. The reason I say that is if I jump in the car and don't put my foot on the brake and hit the start stop button it does not come on in aux mode every time. Most times actually it takes me a few taps of the button to get the dash to light up and the screen to pop up. So that is without me even trying to start the car. So something is not registering. I am going to grab my other key tonight and give that a shot then head to the dealer. Car isn't even two weeks old.... sucks, but oh well.

i think its just the nature of the button. what works best for me is firmly pressing the button with the left side of my right thumb. always works for me that way.

Interesting........I have never had any problems with the start stop at all. Wonder if anyone else is having this issue on 2017s......first I've heard of this.

My old S4 had a faulty ignition spark module that doesn't always work. Got it replaced. You might want to bring it to the dealer to see if anything is wonky.
