Oil leaking from front of engine, after oil pressure light came on

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While driving, I noticed my oil pressure light appeared and my car shut off, I was lucky enough to roll over to the side of the road but when i opened the hood I noticed a considerable amount of oil had puddled up on the road, looks to be from the front area of my engine. Any ideas what the cause is? Gasket? I have begun digging around for the massive leak, I have the intake manifold taken off, along with the valve covers and I don't see any issues so far?

Checked your oil pan for holes or major gasket leakage yet?

Front crank pulley has a shaft seal behind it, maybe that blew out?

Could always be either the valley pan gasket or the oil pressure sending unit.

It's your low oil indicator light, those almost always result in some sort of leak.

Mine was my sending unit gasket. Leaked like a sieve.

Front crank pulley sounds like a very likely culprit, not sure if it has anything to do with the other issue I was having; car wouldn't crank at all the few weeks before this happened. Had to roll start it to get it going, and I could never track down why it wouldn't crank, I'd turn the key, hear a click and nothing. Thoughts on this?

Did you bench tested the starter when this happened? Sounds like a solinoid issue. The leak, we can all just guess but I'd suggest putting the front end I to service position and getting an inspection mirror. Should be easy to see where it is leaking from. I had a car that the sending unit diaphragm blew out and it pumped all the oil out of the engine. That was a bad day... when I diagnosed my Valley pan gasket leak, I hit record on my phone and lowered it down and it was very apparent...

When you say "put the front end in service mode", you mean what?

After taking the front bumper off, a guy I know that works at a Euro repair shop came over and showed to how to put it in service mode. Glad I already bought the front motor mount months ago because the one I had is trash. But the leak it coming from the valley pan gasket.

Just got the valley pan gasket in, along with intake manifold gaskets. Preparing to piece this all back together, but had a few questions and need advice. Should I use gasket sealer on the intake manifold gaskets, valley pan gasket, and since I removed my valve covers where should I use sealer on those? This is a first for me, so sorry in advance if these are newb questions. I also have my new snub mount ready to put in, should I use any grease or anything while installing that?

I didn't on the intake manifold, valley pan, but I did on the valve covers (a very light smear all the way round - some folks just do the half-moon seals and corners of the main gasket). For "rubber" parts, I use Dow electrical grease, so a light smear on the snub mount on the engine, makes it easy to install/remove the 034 bushing

Cool, thanks! Also, before dismantling my engine I was getting the P0300/P0302 codes, that most likely aa case of the coils or spark plugs right? After the dismantle of my engine, 8 scanned again with it taken apart and only got the P0300 code (probably stored from before taking it apart), so my question is.. do coils just go bad alltogether, or can it be a case of a coil being damp and will still work once dried off or whatever.
