    Automatic gear shift knob stuck

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I see a few threads explaining how to remove the automatic shifter handle, but they all state to pull the knob outwards. My shift knob is stuck inwards, and pulling it out is very difficult. Shall I continue to pry it out, or is there some other method I can try? FWIW, I tried tapping with a rubber mallet, but the knob still won't pop out.

With this stuck, I can't get the ignition key out.

    Thanks.
    Audios,
    -Neil.

It pulls directly out. If you can get the shifter handle off you can use a compressed air tank to blow in the bottom and push the button out.

This is the problem... with the button pushed in, I can't get the handle off. With a couple smalls screwdrivers I can pry it out a bit, but there seems to be some significant spring action sucking it inwards. Hoping someone knows a way that perhaps I can get in from the around the side of the shifter to push the internal up-down plunger up.

The write up I used had a ziptie around the button when you pull it out.

It definitely has a good amount of pressure side to side. So you will have to pull or pry it quite hard. That said, that is the only way it comes out.

I went into the scrap yard and was able to pull off two of these so I know the process now... but mine won't come off! If the scrap yard ones were the same tan color as mine, I'd just cut mine off. I need to find some other way.

Are you saying the knob is off but the button to shift is stuck in? That happened to me and I just put a piece of duct tape on it and pulled

The knob is deep in (where it would be when pressed in to shift). I can pull it out quite a bit, but I feel like the ones in the scrap yard came out a bit more (where I could see the white parts inside the handle) and as much as I got it out, I could not get the handle off.

There's a spring under there so it may just be under tension. I'm saying to try putting a flap of tape on it then pull the whole thing out. Once it's pulled out enough grab a hold of the button or slide a screwdriver underneath to prevent it from being pushed in again.

Yep... been doing that. I was holding it out with a couple screwdrivers stuck in opposite sides.
