    Fog light suggestions for RS5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Now that we're in the post "summer" but pre mushing season and hunting is mostly over I can continue with modifying my RS.

I have 4 things off the top of my head that I want to change. In order of priority:

    Add some fog lights

Add an LED pod in center of the lower rear difuser (as I've done on the Tregs) to shed some light when backing up when everything is covered in ice and snow

Add a T from the existing idiot light circuit and install an oil pressure gauge and get some pressure readings (will try and tie that into the P3 gauge despite the 5v inputs).

Install a remote start (will start by installing one on the wife's V6 Treg to get the hang of it).

So on to the first item. Looking for suggestions for LED/HID fog lights that will blend in with the look of the RS. Thanx for all pointers

Yeah and half of them irrelevant comments. Am interested to see if you can get any info on the China Mart ones. Was just trying to see if anyone in the meantime had any new suggestions. Thanx

In the RS5, the on/off for the fog lights (above the rear collision lights) is obviously a fixed plastic tab. Since the S5 or other models do have fog lights, is that where they would be connected to? Also, how easy is it to remove that switch and order an S5 one? It's obviously not the same as in the Tregs where you simply move the light switch partly to the right, push in lightly and then the switch just pops out. The alternative is of course to just connect the fogs to the rear collision light but this way would be more elegant.

I'll probably be going with the picture and general idea/location in http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...g-lights/page2 #60 once I finish with installing a remote start for the wife's Treg and retrofit the blind spot monitoring system (somewhat of a pain as you have to remove the entire rear bumper to place the radar and the run wires...). For the remote start, I found a (relatively) simple method using the iDataLink system which has the advantage of not having to sacrifice a key and is (relatively) easy to remove if ever you wanted to.

    Thanx for any assistance.

So the light switch seem to be the same for those vehicles with fogs and those without. In the case of the latter, the emplacement for the fogs are simply replaced by a piece of plastic. It seems that it's comprised of two parts. The switch itself and the bezel. So it should be fairly straight forward to install a switch for the fogs leaving it with a clean OEM look

Providing the switch is actually a switch and not just a momentary button which sends a message down the can-bus to say 'turn the fogs on'.

I'm sure it can be reverse engineered even if it this were the case with a relay and some black magic.

I'm sure either way would work once you enable fogs with the VAG-COM. If it's a "momentary" button I'll have to find the module and tap into that if it's a regular switch then it would work as well.

It's just a momentary button and not a toggle.

I'd do it the OEM way - enable fogs with vag com then run wires for the fogs from the central electric module that's above the pedals.

How about get a grille like this

    http://www.xenonz.co.uk/store/p456/A...ATTRO%22_.html

But remove the Quattro logo and put a light bar there instead. Similar fashion to a post in the first thread about mounting an led bar below the grille. But this one is a bit higher like you wanted.

Thanx Jachien, but that's a lot of cash. I'd rather look into using the existing slot on the RS5 even if it is a tad low. Just need the measurements. In the fall/winter though, too many things to do in the summer in Alaska :)
