1st "road trip" in my SQ5 since I got it in Aug - 800 miles rnd trip observations

    24 mpg @ speeds between 70 and 90.

I have my speed warning set @ 100mph and my smart ass 15 year old daughter counted 6 times into the warning area during passing. What can I say, it wants to run.

For the most part the car just cruises effortlessly, much like my A6 2.7t did back in the day. We were up in some of the ozark mountains near Branson MO, blipped down to 7 on the uphills and the hills were no match.

The boot was a little tight. 2 adults, 2 teens, and luggage for a 5 day weekend filled the back up. Especially when you added a few amazon prime boxes we took to the parents in prep for Christmas next month.

I think for Christmas we will take the wifes explorer sport just for the extra room for gifts and such.

That's awesome. How u squeezed 24mpg is beyond me. If I drive "conservatively " I'm getting maybe 21.

    Nice n roomy vehicle.

i've driven quite a bit between SF and LA and if you slow roll it ~70mph, you can squeeze out 25+mpg. anything above 70 and fuel efficiency starts to struggle noticeably. we only have 91 oct here in CA - 93 oct should get slightly better mpg.

The return trip was a lot of down hill. 2,500 to 400 slowley falling over 300 miles.

goblues38, How does the SQ compare to the explorer sport?
I know the SQ is smaller that is about all I know.. I had a 14 sport
    and traded for my Roush.

We average about 33-34 mpg @ 80 mph with our (cheating) TDi... ;-)

The cargo space is just adequate for 4 people packing moderately, but realistically we only do that sort of road trip once or twice a year... I'm happy with the size of the vehicle the other 99% of the time...

    It's a great road-trip vehicle overall, IMO.

    On Stage 2 we're averaging around 24 mpg @ 90 mph (L.A. to PHX), 26-28 mpg @ 75 mph (L.A. to Eastern Sierras)

It's always a little crazy to see that 8-speed loping along at 1800 rpm @ 75 mph...at highway speeds I get better mileage in the SQ5 then the S3

I agree on the cargo space, 2 adults + 2 toddlers gets a little snug, but I have yet to cave for a rooftop carrier with proper cross bars of course

I had a 2013 SHO and was happy with it, which is why we got my wife the EX Sport. The ECOBOOST motors are some of the best motors on the planet right now.

It is our family car, we regularly use the 3rd row with the kids and their friends. Also great for family vacations. We have a roof cargo carrier we can use and have done 7 or 8 - 2,000+ mile round trip vacations in it.

The SQ5 is my car. It replaced a 2015 Mustang GT. I just needed something a little more practical.

The SQ5 is much quicker and more nimble then the EX Sport, can't wait to compare the 2 in snow.
