    Heater Core back-flush

Replaced my core a little over 2 years ago, but never really cleaned out the rest of the coolant system. So I wasn't all that surprised to not have heat when it just started getting cold up here in New England.

My inlet/outlet pipes were also pretty mangled at the firewall side, so I decided to replace them while I was at it.

Used some 3/4" ID rubber hose, metal mesh for a screen door as a filter, and a cheap submersible pump from Harbor freight.

Garden hoses also seem to work for this job. Then you won't need a pump, just turn on the spigot. And you won't have to remove the heater core.

I used a drill driven pump off Amazon. Ran one hose from the pressure side of the drill pump to the inlet of the core. The pickup on the drill pump pulled from a 5 gal bucket of CLR/H20 mix. The outlet of the core dumped back into the bucket. Ran it for about 15 minutes. Then ran a few pails of clean water. About 45 minutes total. The amount of crap that ends up in these heater cores is amazing. I ended up draining the coolant from the whole system and filling up with a fresh 50/50 G13 mix, takes about 2 gallons. Now my heat at idle is about 100 F to 120 F with blower at full blast. It'll get hotter when the fan is on less, but this makes sense.
